Merck contract

All depends where you live...Where I live 34,000 a year for 24 hours a week is good money 27.50 and hour ...break down what a teacher makes, banker, accountant etc. etc. per hour and then think of what we need to do to make 27.50 sorry great second income!!!!!!

34K on West Coast or in North East is basically poverty level. Cant even afford to rent a 400 sq ft studio walk up apartment on that!

CSO means --------------> Caution Second income Only!!!!!!!!!

Ya, times are tough, but tough minded people just do what they have to do. Cut spending. Move. Go back to school. Sell the house. Find a rich wife. Find a rich husband. Work at Wal Mart on the weekends.

I mean, there are options.

Smart people don't sit there and let life happen to them. They make things happen.

And I have been rejected for about 20 jobs in the last 3 years. And I mean face to face interviews, not just applying.

But, I landed something.

And you know what? Its a good job, but I still looking because I think I can do better. And I am still looking at going back to school part time. And I saved about 100k over the last 5 years so when this time came, I would have some leverage.

Bottom line is that life is not complicated, but we complicate the shit out of it, don't we.

Sock 100K away, 20K away each year! Took me 18 years to do that saving like a maniac.

Well, I have no life too. LOL.

It makes me enjoy my time in the field though. So, its go to the gym very early, work early, and work late, go home and do nothing.

Weekends are for cleaning the home and relaxing.

See how simple I have made my life?

And, I must say, I LIKE IT A LOT.

Merck people (DM) should be at the reigns with the contract reps. They know the product, business, style and needs of the company. They can better guide and evaluate the contact reps.

That is too funny. A good percentage of the contract reps have been trained in several of the products long before any of the Merck DM's were.

A contract is a contract...it comes and goes. If you base your decision on whether it's going to be extended or not, you'll never really find any suitable job in contract sales...heck, with all the layoffs in BP, even that ain't safe.

As far as the Merck contract itself being good, yes, it is good. Most of the naysayers on here are actually poor, disillusioned folks who were expecting too much of a good thing. You will most likely get responses along the lines of:

* Merck counterparts are making life difficult for Merck contract reps
* PSS managers are micromanaging the sh*t out of their reps as if this was a full time regular salesforce in some BP company
* the pay sucks, no benefits, just a total waste of time

And possibly even more that I fail to mention right now...but don't let those negative things dissuade you from pursuing this - if it's really what you want.

This job isn't for those who expect a company car, full benefits, and a paycheck comparable to a BP rep. If you are currently a rep, then don't leave until they kick you out - then collect unemployment - then go after something like this. If not, then stay put where you are - unless your goal is to get out of Big Pharma. This job is for those looking for part time work, who are unemployed and looking for something just to keep experience relevant/current, or just for the extra income to supplement a main family income.

I am really enjoying this contract. I was a legacy Shering Plough rep. I have a great manager! Just found out we are getting Nasonex in March!! And they even have a president's club program in place! Due to the success of the program, I am confident that the contract will be extended past Dec 2011. I'm very happy with this contract.

Well 34,000 a year is a great second income if your hubby makes at least twice that depends on how you live...family is more important to me than flashy life....I love this contract!!!

I agree my hubby makes over 5 times what I make. This is a great part time gig that gets me out of the house while kiddos are at school and it beats the heck out of working at pottery barn. Not all of us need to make big $$$$. For my situation, I would take a lower pay and less hours over more pay and more stress any day. The best part, I still get to do what I do best, be a Mother!

It is a good job although they work with us way too much. It is kinda silly. I have never worked with management as much as this.

If it does get renewed they have to let people know at least 6 months ahead of time bc they don't want ppl to quit. I don't think its a good sign that they are not doing a national sales meeting now though....
