Media question: life under Valeant

B+L employees - My name is Matt Daneman and I'm a business reporter with the Rochester, NY, Democrat and Chronicle. And given all the Allergan issues and talk about how Valeant operates, I'm interested in getting a better idea of how life under Valeant is different than Warburg Pincus or the publicly traded days. I'd love to talk with current B+Lers, or people who left since Valeant took over. My preference would be to talk to you on the record, using your name, but if that's a problem, we can also talk not for attribution. Thanks. mdaneman@gannett.com, (585) 258-2470.

From a sales rep perspective, the only differences I have seen to date:
Less vacation time and no vacation purchase option
BETTER investment portfolio
A few transition glitches with samples & sales goals, but to be expected in ANY transition.
No change in personnel other than those who panicked and fled.

Less vacation and it's accrued so we can't take it as we want, less benefits (no more free Bausch products or lenses), medical/dental/401k not nearly as good. Less resources, less communication.

In many ways, better. A lot fewer 6 figure slackers playing angry birds on their phone and spending most of the day smoking in the parking lot talking to their girlfriend(s). Some actual redundancies have been eliminated. Many positions that existed for the sole purpose of generating enormous amounts of data to pass along to the next person and then to pass along again, are gone. Seeing a lot more 'working' managers now and a lot fewer off-site management meetings at the country club in the middle of the day for 5 hours at a time. Downside, lost a lot of IT and D&R so fixing things and getting things done is taking longer and the future doesn't look as bright as it used to. Morale at an all time low. We all know this is as good as it gets and will likely get worse. One piece Valeant hasn't figure out yet, they need to go through regulatory and quality with a magnifying glass. Because these areas weren't decimated, these 2 groups are still placing a huge burden on the remaining infrastructure that simply can't support their demands. Once the headcounts are evened out over the organizations the functional areas will be a little more evenly distressed and everyone will be limited to only doing what is absolutely necessary.

Re-read your benefits and request an explanation as I find all of your comments to be FALSE.

ACCRUED MEANS YOU CAN USE THIS YEAR's unused vacation days into the next year. I am on week 2 of vacation now. I have ordered contact lenses successfully and so have others. Filled a Lotemax Gel Rx yesterday-$0.00. I had surgery under the new Aetna plan -copayment $25-unheard of!

I have a team of financial planners and consultants (trust fund baby!) and all of them will disagree with your assessment of the 401k plan.

If you're going to be a hater, at least be an honest one.

Less resources? What? I agree with the ap-be honest. We are business as usual. Expenses have not changed one dollar. Speaker budgets are the same. Literature is online and everything is available. In fact now we can order things we couldn't before.

Finance, R& D, Regulatory, etc were told upfront they would lose their jobs. They would likely lose their jobs no matter who purchased B & L.

Matt, there have been no real changes.

There have been a ton of changes. One year ago, I loved working for B+L. After August 6th, not so much! Was given Warn on August 6th and had to work through the 3 month period with no severance. Last day of Warn was Oct 31st and came back with same pay, no benefits 3 weeks later as a contractor. Things have been spiraling downwards since. Every other month, more people are laid off. The morale is aweful and we have been told there will be more cuts. There is no rhyme or reason to who is laid off - Valeant definitely does not keep the best of the best.

Just wait until they decide to slash your department. You will understand "deserves" in Valeant's world.

Agree. There is no method to the madness. It's amazing how many reps bitch & complain about the current regime and YETstill stay. Instead of wasting all of that energy complaining, do something. You are simply dropping samples, that's if you actually have them, because of the reduction of sample inventory. The power point presentation is truly audacious as well as compelling.

Hey Matt, Valeant just heap misery on the employees of companies they take over. If you are looking for a list then trawl through this forum, everything from pay cuts to work practises bordering on illegal.

We stay because we are constantly waiting for something good to happen but it never does. You think, how could it stay this bad for so long but it has. Just saying. I think I'm waiting for a end to the madness but it never ends. No light at the end of the tunnel thus far.
