McDonald's Under Pressure to Fire Ronald

All you non-smokers that are just joyful over the amount of taxes we pay and smoking bans everywhere. I told you....they're coming for your shit next.

A government cannot sustain itself by punishing one group of people.

This story may not be about taxing McDonald's, but this story is how things like that get started.

Fat people will be discriminated against big time. It will probably even be legal.

Not the same at all. While there is some similarity in the arument that both cause higher health care costs that society has to bear, the cheers about raising taxes on smoking is that it is optional, hazardous to your health, and more importantly, hazardous to innocent people around you who are making better choices. The bans are simply a decision of your rights vs the rights of the many non-smokers you affect. I would have no issue if someone wants to tax fast food or other optional stuff, especially those things that are bad for you, and this might remove punishing people for working harder. Banning fast food though, nope. You eating a big mac each day does not hurt my health.

News flash -- they already are.

You think so? It seems like every time you turn around, someone is screaming about discrimination but I think the term is WAY overused. Is it discrimination when some OBs in Florida don't want to treat very obese pregnant women? Forget they are at higher risk or that the office equipment isn't built for their weight, nope, it must be discrimination. Or, another Southwest Airlines story where two women were told they were too fat. If you saw the video clips, there is no way those two fit in three seats. Yet it's discriminating against them to say so or if you complain you don't want them hanging into half of your seat. My favorite though are the morbidly obese in their little motorized carts, running over anything that gets in their way. We have far too much tolerance for this.

I remember those days! My environment was Catholic School...if you did something wrong, the nun smacked you. Then your parent gave it to you for getting in trouble at school.

That's extreme, however, we all sat in school and LISTENED. Today, the classrooms are out of control. One day I covered for a friend of mine who was an ESL teacher (English as a 2nd lang). It was the worst experience ever. You had people who were 'immigrants' disrupting everyone, cursing and just not doing work. They clearly did NOT want to be there.

Before anyone starts saying that they have rights...sure they do. We pay taxes to help them have the right to LEARN. If they don't want to be there - get them out. Lastly, I entered school in 1st grade not knowing a word of English because it was my 2nd language then. In one year, I knew English fluently, won spelling bees and wrote essays like there was no tomorrow. I genuinely wanted to learn the language.

This was in part due to parental influence and their focus on education. I thank my parents for that.

I will get pounded here for saying this.....but Catholic educated kids are 10 times better prepared for college than publicly schooled kids.

I remember my school days from 7:40 till 3:30....then to either football or basketball practice till dark....then after dinner 2 to 3 hours of homework every day. And when it was my turn, I was an altar boy for daily Mass every fourth week or so at 6:15 AM.

We moved to Pittsburgh when I entered ninth grade....entering public schools. The classes were so easy....shit I had learned 2 or 3 years earlier. I never opened a book at night for 4 straight years...and got better grades.

SPN, I agree the term is overused. But in the case of the overweight passengers on the plane, the big beef (excuse the pun) is the fact that morbidly obese people who cannot fit into a regular size seat need to pay for more than 1 seat.

For the pregnant woman who is morbidly obese, I think the doctor is making the decision not to handle the case BECAUSE of all the complications that arise from the pregnancy and birth -- and of course the doctor gets blamed for any problems because that is what society has taught others to do.

I have to agree with you about the mobile wheelchairs. If the majority of these people had just taken better car of themselves, they wouldn't be in the health predicament they are in.

There has never been anyone documented for death by second hand smoke.

Unplug their cart if they mess w/ you. I did this once in a Walmart and they just sat their cussing. I'll bet she went thru 2 of those Little Debbie boxes before someone got to her.

Amen! I quit flying Southwest a few years ago after a 1500 mile trip with a very nice, but very fat guy hanging halfway over into my seat. If he wants to be crowded because of his obesity - that's his business but don't crowd me.
