Mandatory liptruzet teleconf rep who said it all

She started with vioxx recall, januvia and cancer, and now liptruzet. She went on and on and on telling them that this is embarrassing and that our customer DONT trust us. She said what EVERY one of us were thinking but only she had the courage. God I wish I knew who she was and thank her.

If I were her boss, I would give her a big raise but you know instead she will get a bad year end rev for being honest and showing courage and candor.

I will hire her in a minute if I could!!

So how did the facilitators respond? Did they provide a good customer centric response to acknowledge her concerns?

It's a shame, but sometimes people let their emotions get the better of them and they speak without thinking first about the consequences.

Did this woman identify herself by name on the conference call ..was it a WebEx also (where she might have typed her name to enter the meeting)??

She sounds like a relatively smart lady (except for this incident). Also, very brave for speaking up when the sheep would not.

But, true to form (with ANY pharma company, not just Merck)...she will likely suffer the consequences.

Amazing that Merck even suggests that reps use "Courage and Candor". Guess this the company's way of weeding out the troublemakers or non-Merck robots??

The real shame here is that when we, the customer facing employees of the company, tell the koolaid drinking dolts that occupy higher level positions whats going on in the field, we have to worry about how we will be perceived by them. We should be able to tell them what we are hearing without then being labeled as a troublemaker, etc. I use to speak out a lot but when I saw how little they care, I just said screw it and now I don't speak out. I don't work very hard now, either. See how this works, merck management. FU.

For many years, I made it a point to be the one to break the uncomfortable silence at any meeting. I thought I was being helpful. Now I realize what an idiot I was. You'll not hear a peep from me at a meeting ever again. FU Merck. I'm done.

Think back a few short years ago when Merck faced patent expiry on multiple blockbusters. Zocor, Vasotec, Prinivil, Singulair, Fosamax, Cozzar. I ask in public, in person, several times: " what was the strategy"? There was none. I even offered : " why not manufacture, market and institutionalize our own Merck generics"? The answer was" Merck is in the research and development business not the generic business." And they just walked away. I bet now they wish they had just a fraction of those lost revenues. It was then that I realized that an MBA is more a theoretical degree than a practical one.

Years ago when Merck used to sell by translating product "facts" into "benefits", e.g., "Once-a-day dosing may improve patient compliance."

So at a major meeting I asked a Product Manager why the primary marketing strategy for a Merck NSAID focused on a fact which had no clinical benefit. The mantra had been FACT/BENEFIT, period.

The Product Manager couldn't answer my question because there was no answer.
While I wasn't fired, that guy never forgot that incident. Every time I saw him after that, he always brought up how I had embarrassed him.

Such a putz! A sincere inquiry taken as a personal insult. This MBA turkey ended up as a VP of Marketing, and he never forgot my question. He was eventually ousted in some scandal.

What does it say about a company when its leadership opens the floor for questions and then expects nothing but kudos or "atta boys" from its ground troops? Just one more reason why a once great company has fumbled, tumbled and nearly crumbled.

What was the old story about that described and Emperor and his new clothes? Can't recall the specifics but somehow this story brought up memories of hearing something similar.

The best part is that management is surprised when the internal survey scores are low. Think about it....they are actually surprised. Our leaders are so out of touch they didn't anticipate low scores. Truly a scary thought. They are making decisions that affect our lives and are so insulated from reality. This is a pattern we have seen just before many great civilizations and organizations dwindle into history. Our "leadership" is only seeking support and affirmation of their decisions. Do not challenge the status quo.....even if there is an iceberg off the bow. Be well.

Dont be so negative. They will talk about the survey results at the upcoming meetings. They are not that blind and stupid.

Are they?

After all, the stock is up. something is going right

Comparing Merck to a great civilization shows you and management share the same delusion that this is an important company. Merck has inflicted a lot of pain and suffering if you consider that importan I guess.

have to admit-stock is up! The company must be doing something right. Stock prices don't go up 6% when things are going poorly.

Since you seem to know it all, explain to us why the stock price is up. In detail Mr. Know-it-all.
