All of those careers that you state are all ones that 99.9% of pharmacy reps are not qualified/capable enough to actually be successful. If you are a pharma rep stay as long as you can in your “career” and bleed it dry because a real job where you actually have to sell something will be a rude awakening for you.

Sounds like someone who was either laid off or could never get into the industry to begin with. Look people, if it happens to you (getting laid off), just be thankful it happened now when the economy is growing instead of during the last recession (my former DM burned through much of his retirement savings). As long as you are smart and have a strong work ethic, you’ll do just fine. Take advantage of any resources the company offers and don’t burn any bridges. Who knows, you may come back, if the opportunity presents. Good luck to all, it’s been an honor working with you.

Success outside of the medical industry for pharma reps are few and far between. Selling insurance/investments to friends, getting into real estate, etc are all jobs you need only a pulse for and yet that is where many of you go until you resurface with a different pharma company. Pfizer is notorious for silos. There is their fair share of talent, but the talent doesn’t have a diverse skill set making them not as valuable to most other companies. Sales reps don’t sell...they are less than a commercial that your docs see on TV since there is no advantage to seeing a rep during a work day but a commercial with a hot chick on TV that tells the basic same 20 second script has a broader and just as impactful message.

You just described yourself and situation to a tee. Many left and are in stable, higher paying positions.
Old dinosaur's like yourself have this weak mindset. Bye bye Wyeth Lambert loser.
