Low Pay?

I was recently offered a position in GI specialty. The offer came in at $91,000. I laughed and said “no thanks.” This is really low for a specialty sales role. I challenged the hiring manager on it. He countered saying the bonus potential made up for the low salary. I asked him what percentage of the field force beat the payout target. He avoided the question. What does a typical GI rep “actually” make at Salix? Other companies in the space are paying over $160,000 in base with comparable bonus and stock plans. And yes, I’m interviewing with them too.
 






You’re not wrong. My base is similar to the one you stated, which is low by industry standards. Bonus potential is definitely there, but, it seems as though if you made a good bonus or a bad bonus, it was just luck of the draw with regard to the primary product here. Much easier to move the needle on the P2 products here. My 2 cents.

BMS grabbed up a bunch of our reps this year giving many salaries that topped $150,000 plus bonus, signing payouts and a ton of stock. Bonus potential at Salix has been good but we have also seen quarters where more than 80% of reps didn’t hit target. At the end of the day, we get paid better than most primary care reps but much less than true specialty reps. It’s bearable
If you have a good manager. But string a couple of weak quarters together and they will put you on a PIP. No matter if you won PC the year before. Bottom line, Salix is a good place holder for veterans between jobs or entry level Pharma job for newbies. We have no R and D and have not replaced products that lost patent. Xifaxan is kind of it. Once that’s gone, so is Salix. My two cents.
 






The base salary here is low. If you need a job for the time being then certainly take it. But the company is highly unethical. They only care about moving product and the managers will never let you forget that.
Like the previous poster said…….if you have a few bad quarters they will put you on a PIP. There is ZERO focus on doing what is right by patients!! It is all about making the sale regardless of what it takes.
This management group would have been fired years ago by the compliance departments at the vast majority of Pharma companies. Go to any other company if you are currently employed. It is not worth being shady to make a sale.
 












The base salary here is low. If you need a job for the time being then certainly take it. But the company is highly unethical. They only care about moving product and the managers will never let you forget that.

This is so true! Making matters worse, management will force you to violate compliance to grow sales. Then when you get caught, they leave you out in the cold and you end up fired for doing exactly what the RD and Manager told you to do. It’s vicious here.

This is absolute truth. Do you remember how AY and MM left their Cleveland team out to dry after they got caught pushing Benzer Pharmacy? They did exactly as they were told and got fired for it. The base pay here is low but even if it was the best paying company in the industry I wouldn't take a job here. Most of us are trying our best to get out. This company is a dumpster fire.
 






This is absolute truth. Do you remember how AY and MM left their Cleveland team out to dry after they got caught pushing Benzer Pharmacy? They did exactly as they were told and got fired for it. The base pay here is low but even if it was the best paying company in the industry I wouldn't take a job here. Most of us are trying our best to get out. This company is a dumpster fire.

Embarrassing to have senior sales leadership sell their souls and any semblance of dignity to win a stupid trip to a middle tier all inclusive resort in the Caribbean. Low rent, no class losers.

They dont even have to win anything to go anymore. Plenty of Directors have gone on the last couple of trips that didnt win.

The fact that they give “At Large” P Club wins to anyone at the corporate office is complete BS….. Hell they wont even let another rep
fill in for a spot vacated when a winning rep leaves. (Which happens all of the time) Its a joke.

They also should realize that San Antonio will continue to “win” every year as long as they continue to get credit for BioPlus Rx’s from all over the Nation…. Its a complete JOKE!

I live in the Midwest. Texas has been siphoning off prescriptions from our largest statewide GI group for years! JC and SVD know all about it. Nothing is ever done and nothing will be done.

Yes- They are getting credit for Rx’s from all over the country. JC keeps saying how amazing they are for continuing to grow…As that SP continues to grow across the country so does the Amazing San Antonio team- Lets make it 6 P Clubs in a row….. Come on JC and ML get a freaking clue…

Looking critically at market conditions and what impacts sales up or down requires real work. Making a forecast that is reasonable, no matter where you live in the nation, demands a thoughtful approach to provide everyone an opportunity to succeed. Our team has been leaking scripts out to Texas for years. They pick our pockets. If the specialty pharmacy servicing TDDC starts filling Xifaxan scripts from docs in Washington or Arkansas, and those reps get no credit, it doesn’t matter. The national number grows and Jabba Coyle gets paid. Working behind the scenes to make sure the right reps get credit takes real effort. That would interrupt nappy time for Big Boy. It would also require the RDs to get a backbone and advocate for their reps. But they are too scared of Josh and too lazy to do their actual jobs. So “San Antonio team, come on up again and tell us all about your special sauce.”
