Just got a new job with another pharma company and I am making $12,000 more in base pay than I did at Lilly!!! Not only that, the target bonus is way higher too!! Lilly says that they have competitive pay but my Recruiter said that Lilly pays way under what other pharma companies offer!!! Get out now! Lilly should adjust the base for reps! It is absolutely pathetic what you guys are making!

You must be new to pharma clearly. Have fun at the other company lol

Lilly may not pay as much as novo but in my experience has been competitive dor where I am in my career.

Maybe the Bank of Lilly is still reeling from the multibillion dollar Imclone fiasco. None of the stuff works... none of it. What a pivotal, and maybe fatal, decision for Lilly. Then came all the stock buybacks... oh .... I feel like Dr. Smith in Lost in Space .... ohhhh ohhhhhh

Seriously, it's time for a management shakeup. Way too much internal networking. There may be rules about nepotism but they're a joke.

The problem with Lilly is that starting salary is higher but once you have been there some years, increases are minimal. They always use the same line that you are already close to the top of your pay grade so increases are minimal for those at higher bases. Those with lower bases get higher increases. Lilly is so messed up. And bonuses are nothing compared to other companies. Run as fast as you can.

Congrats on your move. It's great to make a solid base but earning 100% bonus payout and having stability in this industry is becoming rare. I recently came over to Lilly from another pharma company and from my experience Lilly's pay is on par with other Big pharma companies. I got a bump in pay, and just got a raise. Specialty Biotech companies and specialty positions (i.e. Oncology, Hospital) definitely pay more. Is that where you went? However, if you're in primary care, the likelihood that you're going to get a 12k base raise is unlikely (but not impossible) unless your base is really low..ie 50k or you move from primary care role to a specialty role

Also, our "we" vs. "me" bonus structure is unique. It definitely has it's negatives but it's ok. I haven't fully decided if I completely prefer it to "force ranking". The alternative system of force ranking has it's benefits but one managed care loss mid year and you could be ruined. Only having 1 or 2 products to promote makes local formulary disadvantages worse. I talk to my counterparts at my previous company and they aren't happy at all..no bonus (drug isn't doing well), lot's of pressure (drug isn't doing well), performance plans (drug isn't doing well), no raise (drug isn't doing well) and rumors of lay-offs (drug isn't doing well).

Good luck on your new position, but I'm staying where I'm at.

My base is 120k. I'm tenured and multiple trip winner though. Bases all depend on tenure and divisions. Bases can be as low as 60k for some.

You're an idiot. The pension and other benefits equate to at least 15 - 20K per year on top of salary. You just lost money and screamed out to the world look at me, I'm an ignorant jackass! Glad you're gone, not smart enough to be here. Oh, and do you also think recruiters tell the truth? Wow, dumbass, your future looks great.....not

It's no secret Lilly and the big Pharma companies pay sucks compared to mid sized companies. They give you a new title "senior" "executive" etc and put you on a committee to make you feel good and talk about the prestige of working at Lilly but they don't pay. How many Lilly reps do you know who have received their entire at plan bonus 2-3 years in a row? I left Lilly Oncology and got a 10k bump in base and 60k target bonus but our top 15% of reps will be well over 100k bonus. You can work at Lilly and feel good about your name badge even though they don't care about you or you can go make some real money with a company who invests in its people not paying for better coverage.

Pension and other benefits? Yeaaaaaaaa my new company gave me a big sign on bonus and stock that is way better than my pension. AND the benefits were better. Also my car is better and has leather. Enjoy that pension..... I'll enjoy my 40% bump in total comp.

But does your new company have a soccer field? What about an on-campus bar & grill? Didn't think so. Was it really worth giving up the Colonel's perks for a measly 12 grand?
