Novartis has shut down production indefinitely at its plant east of Lincoln, according to a letter sent to customers by two executives in the company's over-the-counter drug division.

"I am writing to inform you that Novartis Consumer Health Inc. is temporarily suspending production at its manufacturing facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, beginning December 19, 2011," reads the letter from Brian McNamara, president of OTC Americas and Roger Gravitte, VP of sales for North America OTC

The letter said the shutdown temporarily would disrupt the supply of Excedrin, Theraflu, Triaminic, Maalox, Lamisil and Benefiber.

Novartis officials did not respond to numerous emails and phone calls left both at the Lincoln plant and at Novartis Consumer Health's corporate offices in New Jersey, so it is unknown what effect the shutdown is having on local employees.

At last count, the plant had more than 600 permanent employees, as well as a number of temporary employees.

GUESS THEY ARE SPRAYING FOR ROACHES ? WAS THE FDA FAR BEHIND HERE TOO ???

"The decision to temporarily suspend production is driven by our continuous commitment to the highest standards that meet the expectations of our consumers and customers as well as health authorities around the world."

Corporate bullshit language as its best! Continuous commitment to the highest standards? What a joke! Do they seriously think that anybody buys this lousy explanation?
