Honest advice. Recruiter just contacted me for an opening to sell Xiidra. Between pharma jobs, 20 plus years in industry not deperate ( Have a years emergency pay just in case and wife works)but would like to work again. I've read several of the threads here and it sounds dire! What can you tell me about the product and the transition you guys are going through to Takeda. Have another iron in the fire which would be a much better opportunity, but there are so many like me looking for jobs I have to consider every opportunity even the s0-s0 ones. Thanks.

Consider first that ophthalmology is very likely to be divested, this is public news. So personally how long you would be around is an uncertainty. I work in medical - Xiidra itself is a good drug. Read the postings from the sales colleagues - how the franchise has been managed is clearly very poor and second rate. Forget any pipeline promises that the recruiter maybe mentioning

Fake News! You are not in Medical and Xiidra is now a $200 million/year drug so the sales force and management did a GREAT job!!!!

No matter how much the drug brought in, much more went out. Management was and still is very poor in the business unit. Less than 10% of reps made target bonus. One third of the reps, or more left for other companies and the bleeding has not stopped. This is not due to a buy out by Takeda-its a leadership/management issue.
If you are desperate for a paycheck go for it. Otherwise follow a different path. Pay is decent. Do not count on bonus no matter what they tell you. Forecasting has been done for 2019 and with over 100 territories empty, goals will be impossible. Territories will be bigger, a plus, but you will have more than what they are telling you if that matters.
Nothing at all in the pipeline, so do not believe those lies. Managed care is horrible (at best). You will be selling a coupon and pushing enrollment in a marketing gimmic more than selling a drug.
More competition in the market. Generic competition too.

Again thanks for the insights. I am surprised I was even contacted ( a month after I applied) because although I'm over 20 years in the biz, never sold eye products. And just from the posting, the central city of the geography is 2 hours away from my home base, LOL. I dont mind driving its part of rep life! But I do wonder if Takeda will sell the product as some posters have stated is public knowledge? I only need 2-3 years anyway till I shut it down full-time. Have a much better iron in the fire which will get going starting next week. But as all of you know the comp for any of these gigs is fierce! I appreciate the heads up and good luck to all of you still at Shire and congrats to those who are happier having left!

OP here. Update they are moving fast, booked a phone interview for me with regional director /hiring manager. JD? Any feedback or advice? Owe it to my family to interview.

LOL. Thanks for the kind response, I guess you represent The kind of employee or perhaps sales rep I wouldn’t want to associate with. Instead of out selling, you’re trolling on CP making judgments on me. Be sure to fire back with the snappy response, then again you are the actual loser, bitter rep that’s stuck with a job you probably do partime.

Traditionally they looked for eyecare experience. It would be very difficult to get anyone with eyecare experience to c9me on board. Bad reputation in the space. Therefore they are going where people dont know how things are.

There are 22 open ophthalmics sales positions. That's just the ones the haven by beg filed yet, there's many more from the beginning of the year that have recently my beg filed. We Holy crap!
