Leaving Shire. Base salary question

I'm sure I'll be called an idiot, moron, loser and all of the other things that go along with asking a simple question on here but I have faith there will be at least one decent human being on here.

I'm leaving shire neuroscience. I'm sure you can figure out why. I was new to pharma, been here 8 yrs so I've never taken another pharma job. Base is 88k. How much of a bump in salary can I ask or expect with a new company?

$10.50 per hour at Jimmy Johns , LOSER!

$88k plus another $20-$30k in bonus, so lets say he/she's bringing in $110k-$120k. That's great money for pretending to be in sales and working 20 hours per week. I have friends and family members who are in other professions, work 40-60 hours per week, and earn much less, and they can't just run into Target real quick or decide to go home for no reason other than they feel like it.

If $110k is bad for part time work after 8 years, whats acceptable in pharma? $150k? Would that be commendable? But then device reps would laugh at you because they're making $250k. It never ends.

To the OP, $88k is a great base salary, I know Lundbeck is known to pay around $100k in base salary. You may find the higher bases are more common with smaller specialty companies.

That's a nice base for sure. I am definitely not close to $120k base but will make that total for the year. I've only been in pharma for 5 years however. Based off the math, you are pulling in an additional $2,332 per month after tax over the OP's $80k base. That's nice, it is. I'd like it. I might not upgrade to a bigger house, but it would grow my savings faster thats for sure.

Maybe you've been in the industry longer? Or did you know which company paid that kind of base and you made it a point to apply to that specific company? Maybe you're a repeat P-club winner and received 5% raises each year. There are a lot of unknown variables at play. Great base though!

Correcting myself, $1,866 extra take home per month, after tax. OP's base was $88k not $80k. My mistake. Still a nice increase.
