Leaving Hospira

I was with Hospira for several years. As soon as we separated from the pump sales into "DDS." I started sending out my resume. I had never had trouble getting a job and always received calls from recruiters during my career. For some reason my experience with Hospira was hard to define and it took me the longest time to get out. Once I left I am back in the same position where I feel as though I will always have a job based on my performance. What is it about Hospira that make it difficult to get out? After reading the posts today it looks like I got out just in time. I wouldn't want to be there now. This isn't the same company it used to be and it looks like the employees are suffering for it instead of executives. Hope 2013 is better for everyone at Hospira.

why are you coming to this board if you got it so good now ? you posers and trolls make me laugh ! keep bumming all day and post away that will put some $$ in your pockets (not)

Whether we like it or not, what happens after we leave Hospira still can have an effect on our careers. Negative publicity is not good. Just recently, a manager asked me "Did you worked for Hospira? I heard they have some problems." Like the original poster, I am thankful I got out in time.

Is there a message board for ex-Hospira people? We can now spill our guts and not worry about being discovered and losing our jobs. We aren't welcomed on this Cafepharma message board.

This is message board open to everyone. Those who post on it do not chose who can reply. Many people use these boards as a tool for making career decisions. I am grateful to have a place to read about other experiences with the company present or past included.

Leaving Hospira may be difficult. The word is out about the company. I have heard several hiring managers say they will never hire someone from Hospira for a number of reasons.

I was lucky and found a much better company and position. Unfortunately for Hospira I was not one of the "bad" people there. There is one less good person working there.

Did they mention why they would not hire from Hospira?

I've heard negative things about Hospira where I now work too and I keep a low profile. If someone asked me if I worked there, I say yeah, but that was a long, long time ago.

"where i now work too"
what a moron !!!!

Nothing is wrong with that quote. Even at MacDonald's everyone is talking about why there may be a Consent Decree at Hospira. Not bad for hamburger flippers, eh?

Hospira needs to hire people who can actually do some work, rather than just being "nitpicks." You can hook up Christmas lights, can't you? Why don't you transfer over to the infusion pump group and fix those "alarm" problems that has been dogging them for about a year. What is the big deal in getting buzzers or speakers to work?

It is your company, not mine anymore. And it is going downhill because self- proclaimed "non-morons" like you will not step up to the plate. Fix your own problems with the employees you have instead of depending on outside "resources" to do everything for you. That is how Hospira got itself into this mess.

How would posting put dollars in my pocket? I am ot saying I have it "so good now." I like my job. I was just commenting on how it was a difficult job to define on my resume. I really just wanted to see what tips people had for transferring out of the company. I am very happy where I am but you never know what may happen these days with acquisitions etc. and I want my resume to be the best it can be. I am not a troll I am just sharing my experience in hopes that we can all help each other out.

You are not the troll -- the troll is the one who called you a troll. As to how to fix up your resume I would suggest going linkedin and check out those resumes. It's amazing how some people today can make being a garbage collector sound like they did brain surgery. Check out Karen Blackwell on linkedin she's great at making what she's done seem so much more grand than the reality of what really happened.

After Hospira, I got my present job in high-tech through LinkedIn. I was very careful to have connections with only reputable, well-liked colleagues. Be discriminating in accepting connections on LinkedIn. Don't assume the bad guys are not known by the recruiters.

If your job is hard to define, that is reason enough to consider a career change. Also the best time to leave a company is when you are still happy. It is a lot better than if you are unhappy and felt trapped in a bad situation with no solution. I worked in a group that was dysfunctional. People did not give information willingly. It didn't bother me so much at first, but eventually I knew I had to get out. No other company before or since has been like that. Been happy ever since.

Enough facts have been made public about the company that the time I spent at Hospira and the Hospira black mark of working there have been minimized. The non desirables in the HSP workforce attempting to defend the companies failed practices by bad mouthing people after they left the company in reality had the effect of helping those ex employees and in reality made the company look worse. Oh and the great HSP employees who helped put the company where it is are now jumping ship like lemmings to Abbott. Think about it; Abbott; really?; is this 2004 all over again? Now that is funny. LOL Life is good.
