Thants a big part of respiratory, PC teams on one side. Other side have Maxalt going off too, so that might take a bite out of Neuro and the other side of PC.
 






























This company has had a reliable environment of pending layoffs for several years now and it seems to be the only play in the leadership's playbook. The atmosphere of uncertainty is not going to evaporate and neither logic or rumor can defeat it. There will be fewer employees on January 1, 2012 just as certainly as there were fewer employees on every January 1st for the last 5 years.

The rumor of end of June is all over the place, can't get away from it no matter what department you talk too. NJ requires a 60 day notice so for the end of June to be a reality in NJ, notice has to be given by 4:00pm April 29th. Anything after that goes on the 3rd quarter books. If you work at Merck go re-listen to the video message that Fraiser delivered to the employees earlier this month. Then take note of when the 1st quarter conference call is with investors, then take note of when the company wide meeting is with Fraiser and the EC is. You add all this up, and there is your reason why there is a lot of talk about next week being the week.

Heck it is all speculation, it is rampant speculation but speculation none the less. Should be interesting next week because the anticipation is so high.
 






That's pretty good logic - I'm expecting something in the next couple of weeks because of what it says on the home page (intranet). It says all the new organizational changes need to be in place by June. So we need to move fast and make changes and decisions quickly. Your math makes sense - I'm not going to poke holes in it. I'm PRAYING for a package.

If this is turns out to be true all the field meetings and Chicago meeting about about new job opportunites was a farce that raised false hopes.
 












I too think a package would be a blessing. I used to enjoy my career here with this company. No more, I hate what this job has become. I think layoffs will be quick and done towards the end of the year (so 2012 will be a fresh start) for reasons already mentioned.

Speculation is always full of holes, that is what makes it speculation.
 






ddin't you hear the backpedaling msg from DCOS after Ken Frazier spilled the beans?? "there will be no layoffs this year"!! Look for mid 2012 unless Mrk buys a small co our licenses something big
