If Frenchie had half-a-brain, he would reduce field sales by 75%! We are falling all over each other, at least for 3 or 4 hours per day, since that's about the average we all work each day! I probably average 5 hours per day and a lot of that is windshield time. Actual detailing time is probably 30 seconds in front of a doc, except for lunches. We are handcuffed by managed care. If you are covered, then you will do well. Access has become a nightmare. No-see docs are standard now. I see who I can, and lie about the rest. It's just the way it is.

The current sales model, if you want to call it that, has been broken for years. Mr. Obama will eventually have a single payer plan for all of us. At that point, the need for sales reps will fall off dramatically.

Think about it. If you had just been named CEO and charged with turning this company around, what would you do? Come out a bold strategy of investing in more headcount, a larger sales force to promote our aging brands or begin a strategy of efficiency, cost reductions, and invest the savings in research, new drug purchases, and company acquisitions? Really, do you think the answer is that we just need more sales reps and managers? The answer is so obvious.

Same old pattern repeated before every major layoff. Hire a bunch of newies on the cheap so they can lay off the veterans and dead wood. It is all about delivering their contacted number of robot fake ass phoney calls while cost cutting.

I think every rep that's honest with themselves, would agree with your post. I too average 4 to 5 hours per day, max. The diabetes folk are running into each other in the field! It's an absolute joke! We need 2 reps in a territory selling everything.
 




My understanding is that Mr. Soriot and AZ have had 2 separate plans in place for 2013 pending the outcome of the US election and health care reform. Unfortunately for us the plan being implemented means drastic cuts across the board, especially with Nexium going generic next year and the other major brands that follow.

By 2016, Crestor, Symbicort, Nexium and Seroquel XR will all be gone. Brilinta, poor thing, has turned into the biggest launch screwup of the last decade. Vimovo? Not even worth talking about. And what does AZ do? They add on more CNS Overlay reps and CVAS reps! CNS OVERLAY REPS??? Are they insane or just plain stupid, or a little of both. Diabetes folks meet themselves going and coming every day. This company wastes so much money that it's gone way beyond laughable.

Look, anyone with a lick of common sense can see that adding more reps, or even the present number of reps, is waste. Be thankful that AstraZeneca is reliant on outsourced analytics to both think for and make decisions.
