Layoff Predictions

Who do you think will be laid off, and why?

What about timing? All at once or staggered?

DB's message hinted that some people will be eliminated, which means that some people might keep their jobs. Bullshit or truth?

My guess

No layoffs until sale goes through. At that point, everyone not needed for transition will be let go. By end of year, almost everyone let go.

People need for transition: senior members of the commercial org, sales team, R&D to transfer ongoing studies and work.

Gone right away: Centralized functions such as HR (yay!), Finance, Procurement, etc.

Keep jobs long term: Ohio and a few specific scientists (those who know how to make our drugs). A few people will be offered jobs in Jersey or whatever hell hole BMS is located.

Sadly, the reality is that looking for a new job isn't easy in this economy and probably won't be any easier if you hold out for some "package". Hopefully you put away a few extra bucks and created your OWN severance package 'cuz it certainly hasn't been a well kept secret that this day was coming -- it was just a matter of when.

What about the CSOs????

What do you think has been going on the last 6 months with the transition teams?
Everything is done

First to go operations, easily taken over by large pharma

RegOps,
HR
ClinOps
budgeting, contracts
medical writing
too many PhDs
all remaining scientists
OPEX

Ohio stays
certain directors stay
VP/Sr directors go
low level employees go

It won't be Amylin laying people off, it will be BMS. Anyway, if it is considered a mass layoff (>100), they are required to give you 60 days.

Why in the world would you think BMS would layoff their diabetes team? BMS has been looking for additional products for the BMS diabetes team to sell. If weWe have around 600 diabetes reps and around 1200 AZ reps who are currently selling to Endo's / IM and diabetes educators. We also have entire CV team waiting in the wings. We are heavy on the CV side, but very lean on the diabetes side.

I'm not a rep and work in SD. I have no idea what the Hell you're talking about. WARN may not apply to sales, as you work remotely. I'm talking about the people that work at sites.

I want to say we're safe, and the contract force will be cut. But, with AZ and BMS owning us soon, I don't know how we'd be kept. Which company would we work for?

We definately need a larger sales force to combat the novotards. I wonder if there expansion is happening because of this sale.

This is not tough guys, the collaboration agreement with AZ says it all....synergy or legacy does not matter, all are gone my friends.

AZ is an expert at layoffs and evading all of the federal "personnel protection" mumbo jumbo. They've been laying off in waves since 2006. If BMS can't find the headcount synergy, AZ will. The gave their 50% toward the deal to make money not salvage prized Amylin people.

I was down-sized from my last pharma job and the notice received was the phone call letting you know your services are no longer needed and we will have someone pick up your car with in 2 weeks..........there is your legal notice..............no more no less..........................................................good luck all

Wouldn't the 3 months of severance serve as your 60 day notice?

The WARN is the "60 day notice" during which you still get paid. It starts on the 1st day of your termination date that will be mentioned in the severance letter and runs for the next 60 days. You will earn 2 months of pay during this period and you will not be working during this phase (mostly sitting at home and looking for a job). At the end of this period, you are no longer with the company. Now, some companies might still ask you to work during 60 days depending on the importance of that job position.
