The plan is covered by PBGC - which means it is insured. Companies that have lost their pensions in the past didn't have this coverage. You are still a moron. Besides the pension is supplemental to a 5% 401k match. Even if the icing on the cake ends up being spread a little thinner than anticipated, it is still icing. Don't be jealous.

+1 so true. getting laid off is amazing. If you never have been you're missing out. Save your money so you have a cushion, severance comes in, unemployement and its a mini retirement. Those who freak out about getting laid off had to many kids, bought a house to big, spend more than they earn on credit and are a slave to the system.
