Laid off - Take advantage of Lee Hecht Harrison!

that is a puzzling approach

Why is that a puzzling approach? Anyone in this industry, including recruiters and HR people, are aware of widespread layoffs. I think the idea of addressing it up front and taking it off the table is a good idea. If your severance letter is signed and has "lack of work" checked, then all I would do is white out the severance amount handwritten on the bottom, make a copy and let them see it.

Re:Take advantage of Lee Hecht Harrison! Yeah right, good luck!

For anyone that is among the laid off that has not yet contacted LHH, give them a call! BI set up a 3 month membership with a bunch of options to take advantage of (resume service, placement, career coach, office space...). At the orientation meeting yesterday, I was sitting next to recently laid off Schwab, Visa, and Genentech employees and we received a better package and for a longer period which was nice to see. Whether you enjoyed working for BI or not, they have always treated their employees well (layoff being the exception) and they showed it again with paying for this. So either reply with negative/idiotic comments or make the move and get in touch with them.

My company laid me off and paid for this but it's been 2 weeks of applying on line and 3 phone calls. NO RESPONSE!!!! Guess once they have your company's money they don't give a care. How many companies follow up to see what the success rate of these charlatans?

This is just peanuts for them and plus they are diverting your focus from suing BI for a potential possibility of exposing their illegal/unethical practices.

Beware!!

LHH is a good deal. The best part is the career coach working with you on your resume. Resume companies are charging a fortune to do what they do for us for free courtesy of BI. I also took some of the seminars. Alot of the stuff, I was already doing on my own. But for someone who was totally caught offguard by the layoffs, it is a good resource.
I recently landed a job outside the pharma industry and struggled with when to tell them I was laid off because I started interviewing with them prior to the lay off. I worked with my career coach at LHH for advice, and it worked out well. Not everyone outside the pharma industry knows what's going on with the massive layoffs in the industry. I will also say that if you are a good candidate, and they really like you, being laid off is not going to keep them from moving you forward in the interview process. There are good jobs outside of pharma. I'm making $137K. I was only averaging about $86K in pharma. Good luck to all!

That's all well and good but it's not my resume or my interview skills keeping me from getting a job. I needed a career placement firm, not office space 800 miles from where I live. Not trying to sound unappreciative but shit, I'm going to end up having to pay someone else to get me in the door.

75%-80% of all jobs are acquired through networking. only 5-7% through agencies. Forget the "career placement firm". network with everyone. even though you may think your resume is good, if you have not put it in the "new" format, you won't get much interest. you don't need to go to their office to get the most out of what they offer. Sign up for the teleconference whether live or prerecorded. That's where you'll learn the most. Good luck. It worked for me.
