Laid off - Take advantage of Lee Hecht Harrison!

For anyone that is among the laid off that has not yet contacted LHH, give them a call! BI set up a 3 month membership with a bunch of options to take advantage of (resume service, placement, career coach, office space...). At the orientation meeting yesterday, I was sitting next to recently laid off Schwab, Visa, and Genentech employees and we received a better package and for a longer period which was nice to see. Whether you enjoyed working for BI or not, they have always treated their employees well (layoff being the exception) and they showed it again with paying for this. So either reply with negative/idiotic comments or make the move and get in touch with them.

Would about the placement?

I agree with your post. LHH has a good program to offer and taking the time to participate in this Free program can help you with your job search. Put the time in and you will help yourself.

I had my orientation today, and it seems like a good opportunity to take advantage of. You will get out of it what you put into it. It's worth having them check out your resume or attending some of their seminars. Once you complete the orientation, they will provide you a user ID and you can take full advantage of the seminars that they have online. It's worth checking out.

That's all well and good but it's not my resume or my interview skills keeping me from getting a job. I needed a career placement firm, not office space 800 miles from where I live. Not trying to sound unappreciative but shit, I'm going to end up having to pay someone else to get me in the door.

I was not sure what to expect when I went to the orientation. The office is close to my home, but I don't need the office space. I'm home with the dog during the day while the husband is at work. I'm not distracted! (well.. a little) I have a computer and a phone, so why would I want to go into their office to do work? I think that service would benefit someone who can't motivate them self to actually look for work. I completed one of the teleconferences and was a little annoyed with all the background noise. there were lots of people that did not mute their phones and it was distracting. I'm going to see what else the service offers. Perhaps I can freshen up my mircosoft office skills.

I guess I thought that this was a search firm type of service, but it's not. They only prepare you for the interview. I'm grateful and will try to take advantage of what they have to offer.

It's not your resume or your interviewing skills? Not to sound mean, but how many interviews have you been on since you left BI? It's all about the resume making an impression with all the strong candiates out there. I paid $375 to have my resume re-written and had several cover letters written for me. Since then, I've gotten more call backs from the jobs that I've posted for. I get the interview, but I need help with answering those tricky behavioral questions. I am trying to practice and trying to read as much info on the internet and in books that I can find. With the talented candiate pool that is looking for a job, it's crucial that we all find a way to make ourselves stand out on paper and in person.

Companies are steering clear of career placement firms these days. Why pay the high fee to them when they can have the candidates come directly to them?

You are right. This mirrors my situation. I have also paid a resume service (definitely worth the cost) to revise and update my resume and have received good responses from job listings that I have applied to. The resume is just your calling card and the interviews become your next challenge. Good advice about preparing and practicing for your interviews.

A little distracted? Oh you naughty naught girl!

I realize they re trying to help but I would have preferred the extra money rather than LHH. They cannot help with the following issues:
1. BI NOT standng by the letter (what a joke) they wrote verifying that it was a business reason. A recruiter asked if they would verify that and they won't
2. BI NOT commenting on the reason the employee left the company-why not?
3. BI NOTeven answering if the employee left in good standing.
HR direct will respond that "they will not comment on that" (direct quote) Do you know how that sounds? These are all prefectly legal questions................

I thought I would give you all insite on what to expect when a potential employer calls because its not support, its throwing you to the dogs.

I actually have the written severance/seperation letter in my brag book showing it was lack of work. Anyone in the industry now knows that is what happened. I dealt with it up front and did not have a problem with it at all.

Any resume services that you would recommend?

That is good to hear, so you got the job? I too have received questions around the letter especially since it was not signed. I guess it works if you are still looking in the industry but not everyone is taking that route. I was surprised that some recruiters/ employers are not aware of what the Pharmaceutical industry is going through.

Been there done that, at a few companies. Check it out by all means but if you have a home PC you can do the same thing on monster, hotjobs, .... they have no advantages, so decret jobs and no jobs that other pharma companies give them because they are in the same network. They do have a special URL to these so called network jobs where for example a merck will try to hire BI people first but the truth is everyone is laying off and that folder is bare bones, slim pickings.

Thay also suck at resumes just like "right management dot com". The ideas are 1950's. Only you really know what you do best thing is to have some friends in the business check out your resume.

By the way I have seen the over 50's layoff's at other pharma then they turn around and rehire younger and lower pay.

So how is the change Obama talked about working for you?
The only change is that it is vorbotten by the media to tell the truth instead of happy talk and the jobs created. Nice math, I created 5 jobs while typing this and saved 10 others

Obama caused this in 11 months? Where have you been the last 8 YEARS?
