LOL, yep. Stomach issues, breathing problems, insomnia, depression, no energy, extreme sorrow, hopelessness, pain, back problems. . . I no longer even give a shit if I live or drop over dead tomorrow. too old to care, too tired to do anything about it. Not stupid, just sick, old and resigned to this wretched place. Life as a pharma rep has to be one of the worst fucking jobs on the planet. Sadly, we have ZERO transferrable skills if you spent more than five years doing this and are over fifty. No other company will EVER hire you again. It is a death sentence and these companies know they can torture us, treat us like shit and the old ones cannot go anywhere. If we drop over dead, they do not care. Someone will step in tomorrow for probably less money and do it until they drop over. Can I get a do over?

i am sorry you are so depressed and sick, but for christ sake buddy, get real, you do have some choice here. stop being such a victim. if you've been working for merck you've been well paid, take some of the money you have saved, learn to live well within your means, find a job where you will be happier, probably less well paid, but how much is your health worth? i am so sick of listening to all the victims wail. you do have some choice here people. if you can't afford to quit or find a another job, maybe you need to make some choices about how you live. granted this is not a perfect job, but there are very few of those around, someone is always going to be breathing down your neck or up your ass. it might not be easy, you might have to make some sacrifices, but to ruin your health for your paycheck, thats a wasted life. at the very least, call that EARS line or what ever it is and see if you can get someone to talk to - maybe some counseling will help you feel strong enough to help yourself. this job is not worth your mental and physical health and there ARE options. you make choices about how you want to live, you have that ability, so stop being a victim. and all you flame throwers can stick it.

If your manager is making you sick, then he's doing exactly what he has been told to do. You're on the list for removal.

In over 20 years, i never had a manager make me the least bit uncomfortable. In my last 3 years at Merck, I was served up a new manager that failed to make me want to quit. He got no one to quit. He was replaced quickly with the biggest asshole on the planet, a guy that had made getting reps to quit his only accomplishment. A couple of years stomaching that fat ass made almost half the district go away, 5 out of 12 reps, to be exact. I held on longer than the others, which means that I was the most frightened to leave or simply not as smart as the others. The funny thing is, the other half of the reps caught no grief from him at all. Half were on the list and half weren't.

His fat, hillbilly ass can rot in hell. He isn't half as good as the worst rep he pushed out. She was the first to go, the day before a district meeting, no less. What's that tell you? Her husband should have come to the meeting and punched fat ass in the nose., which is bound to happen eventually.

If you are having all these major issues, define the problem and resolve it. In your case, you should have left a long time ago. So sad that there is so much negativity on this board

You should stay at Merck, as it is clear that you have neither the intellect nor the insight to work successfully elsewhere.

No just poor planning and allowed yourself to be used and abused by this company.

I wish everyone can be like myself, retired and have a decent pension to live off and enjoy life. But I know the reality is some people cannot make the decision as easily. It would be great if they move on. I wish they would too. I am not going to judge a person who is a victim in an abusive relationship and not ready to end it yet. But I would help whenever I can.

Don't be so harsh. Many people with those symptoms were star performers and doing great at Merck until the company was taken over by soul-less backstabbers. The company turns toxic and great people found themselves being nitpicked by their managers. We had the policy letters for years but we were allowed to be individual and sell as long as we comply. Then Little Napoleons and Ugly Women are in charge and they proceed to try to mold everyone into their images. The old managers were self assured, matured, and experienced. The new ones are insecure, aggressive, backstabbing, and adore themselves.

Many people develop anxiety and depression trying to prop up this fake job and fake industry so there managers get to have high paying jobs and nice lifestyles...that is all it is about now...

I could have written this...in the exact same boat...finally left Merck but no one will touch me...no point in even trying to get a job anymore...pharma rep lifers need not apply...

I am better off spending down my assets at this point, to qualify for some sort of health care coverage and govt assistance....

Over 50 and TOTALLY unemployable...

you don't get it...get off of your high horse because your advice ain't worth shit...You have obviously never been in the position of being in your 50s, being tossed away like a used rag by a company you gave your heart and soul to, and experiencing the symtoms of anxiety, depression, etc...(these effect countless older drug reps...0

FUCK YOU...the person is not a victim...You will get yours too...Merck will see to that...
