Karyopharm - oncology

PSA: They just fired a couple people for questionable reasoning to motivate everyone else. Do you want to work a t a place that uses that tactic. Our sales leader has no balls.

As much as I want to blame PM for all of this he was never really equipped to be a VP of Sales. He’s was an ok manager, nice, sometimes funny, many times not, but we liked him mainly because he was easy to work for. I don’t think anyone would ever say he was a great leader or knowledgeable, he was always kind of a clown in a good way, which made us like him and follow him. At the VP level you can’t really BS and joke your way through it. He’s been exposed and it’s not his fault. MK knew he was getting a first time VP of Sales. What I’m most disappointed in PM about is he clearly has no backbone, and is easily intimidated by MK and JD...after the two firings it’s clear he is trying to save his own skin and that is the weakest leader of them all.

Amen! It’s over. Managers are leaving, HOS’s are leaving, it is only going to get worse.

And it just did...three more bite the dust...what a joke this place has become. PM will go down as the worst VP ever. He is a big Pharma DM. That’s all he’s equipped for. Last time I ‘follow’ that loser.

Leaving to go to Oncopeptides is a terrible move though. They are a company selling a niche remake of Melphelan and they have almost a 9 billion dollar market cap. They will be bought but with only marginal equity to the reps it will be another 1-2 year line on your resume to add to KPTI and no real money to put in your pocket. KPTI is implodfing and you may have been better off waiting for the buyout that is coming.

Really...you know all this how? Your crystal ball must be amazing. At this point anything is better than Krazypharm and you have no idea about the timing nor the value of a KPTI buyout or any other buyout.

Another line on a resume? So what?

no equity means it’s not worth selling another limited drug with no upside. you went to a tiny biotech for a reason, you must not have a spine.

Plenty of spine... KPTI is just a horribly run commercial organization that operates more like big Pharma than actual big Pharmas, even with, as you say, a product with limited up side. We don’t have enough equity at KPTI to make much of a difference one way or another so it’s not an anchor to stay. Going to Oncopeptide I got a larger base, another signing bonus, shot at a real quarterly bonus(PM f’d the IC plan up beyond repair) and a chance to make a little something on the equity piece. Also we are not leaving empty handed with what has vested here so far. Krazypharm just isn’t worth it anymore. Not saying Oncopeptide is perfect however it can’t be any worse than KPTI and if it is I’ll leave them too. If you want to ride this dumpster fire out good for you, but the likelihood of KPTI getting bought for a big premium is low and the small amount of shares we got won’t matter all that much anyway and thankfully/luckily I already hit on two buyouts in my career so I’m not as desperate for KPTI or Oncopeptide to have some big windfall. Sure it would be great if it happens but I’m fine if it doesn’t. Prefer to work at a place that isn’t a total shitshow.

Good luck.

you should have worked at Merck, you have the right mindset.

How so? I’ve worked only in small oncology biotechs for the last 25 years. Krazypharm is the worst. Hands down. And let’s not forget...PM, besides his 3 years at Onyx-well after it was established, is a long time big Pharma guy, JD, long time big Pharma guy, so tell me how you think this feels like a start up biotech? These guys don’t even know what a small start up biotech is.

If you knew all of this just curious why did you go to KP?
