Japan

SPN - don't fret. I look at all disasters with the same lack of feeling and empathy. Frankly, the only people I give a damn about our my own friends and family. Sorry if that disappoints you. But at least I'm not some phony baloney pretending to care and really don't just to make myself look and feel good. Or, spout how much I care and never do a damn thing. With me, you can guess that I'm not going to do shit and if I can find humor in it, I will. We all die and death is always horrible. Get over it or, better yet, if you're so filled with compassion, go over there and volunteer or spend the next month raising money to send to them.

Interesting. When i said essentially the same thing about Haiti, people like BrokebackChancre shit his pants.

I hope your 'disdain' applies to your friend ILA and his snarky (Post #15) 'one liner', but we all know you only see things that you want to see.

Keep it real.

As for Japan . . . It is an unspeakable tragedy and my 'comapassion' does go out to the Japanese people at this time.

Can't you get anything right? Are you this incompetent or just this biased?

ILA's comment was directed at skewering Hollywood liberals. It was not an indication of indifference toward the people of Japan.

Why not fund something here? Not only do I contribute to certain charities but the over $80K to the Feds for 2010 is contribution enough.

Ok, number one I cannot afford to give shit. I will be lucky to not be working until I'm 70. Number two: I don't give a shit. I seriously doubt whatever any of us do or don't do makes any difference at all in the big picture.

Unbelievable. Over 10,000 likely dead and nuclear reactors melting down and the best you have are racist one liners. I guess people only deserve your compassion if they are in poor black countries. What a different reaction then there was for Haiti.

Not from me there wasn't. I didn't think we needed to send everything and everyone to Haiti. I am a firm believer in that if you can't fix it at home, don't force yourself outside of your bounderies.

There are just too damned many things that need to be addressed on our own soil.

Besides, there are more Billionaires in Japan that you would think. They need to open their own pockets.

I'm all for sending food, water, rescue/recovery assistance (people), medical, etc. I am not for us pouring money into Japan when we need that money here.

Aren't they a proud people? They should accept our humanitarian help and not accept financial help.

BN,I know you think ILA is all things bad and evil but his question about where the celebs are is valid. The celebs poored over disasters like Katrina and Haiti but were dead silent with other US floods and now this disaster in Japan. No, that is no where near the same and there's no comparison to the extreme racism shown by comments mocking the way a Japanese person might speak English or the other nonsense (godzilla? really?) posted here. Now had this been a post about someone black, GG and the rest of you would be up in arms.

First off, I don't think ILA is all things bad and evil, but that is another topic that could take up far too much band space. What I can say here is that both you and ILA are hypocrites. Your criticisim of any other poster on this thread fells flat since with you it is always selective criticism that excludes any person (ILA, etc.) who who appears to think as you do.

Carry on.

Well said, DD.

I highly doubt that the billionaires in Japan would be much of a help to o ur people if a similar tragedy hit our shores.

It's far past time for charity to start at home.

Yep, DD! I agree. I do FEEL terrible pain watching the scenes on TV so I'm not heartless . . . just do not think we can do much to save them from this. It is one of the worst disasters I have ever seen. NY/CA better prepare. It is coming here soon too.

Love your tagline that says you believe in spankings. I gave my gf a nice, brisk one this weekend. She got very hot and bothered over it.

I don't think any of us can understand the magnitude of what has happened there and it's not over yet. There will be long term and immediate issues around the nuclear reactors too. The US was forever changed due to 9/11 and the deaths of over 3000 people. This is many times larger in a much smaller nation. Sure, they are proud, but no nation has the ability to deal with this on their own. I am a HUGE proponenent of spending within the US but there are some national disasters where other nations must help. The aid teams, rescue dogs, blankets, and basic supplies are desperately needed.

Maybe if you saw that their primary request right now is for more body bags and coffins to take care of the waves of thousands of dead drifting to shore... I think the majority of requests have been people and supplies so far.

I will bet you that the US has teams of forensic pathologists and their support staff to help them deal with the dead on the way to (or already in) Japan.

They will need body bags, DNA paper, X-rays, photography and large cooler trucks spread out all over the country to deal with this kind of disaster. Not to mention dealing with the dead who may be contaminated with radiation.

Yes, I'm morbid. But you love it.

This could actually be a new Reality TV series:

"Yes, I'm morbid but you love it."

You're kidding me right? Are you really serious?

I am impressed w/ the Japanese people and how they are handling this crisis. They are very honorable people.

I am not kidding at all.

I never said anything about not helping Japan, simply stated that charity should start at home, there are plenty of people and things that are in need of attention here at home.

I agree with you that the Japanese people are honorable and handling the crisis as best they can and it is equally impressive that we and other nations are helping them.

Who else is over there helping and how much money have these countries given?

I'm taking score, dammit.

About 114 countries so far, even Afghanistan, but not much has been accepted because their needs have been well defined.

I made a donation to Farm Aid - That way, hopefully, farmers in the US will be better able to produce more food and thus maybe they can send some over to help the Japanese people.

An interesting approach...I read their brief annual report and might have missed it but don't see the release of percentage of funds that actually reach farmers and percentage used for administrative costs. I try to start an evaluation of a charity there.
