Japan

Did you all miss the news? I will say that although the poli board fell into ruin and mod support of a particular point of view, at least major world news like this was recognized. Horrible footage and amazing the death toll is so low so far.

I get this is the playground but isn't this more conversation worthy than Sheen, Mel, or Lindsey?

I feel certain we will be sending BILLIONS of dollars to help out. After all, it IS such a poor country. I wonder when the stars will have a benefit for Japan? Or set up a website for us to donate $10 to the relief effort.

I missed the part where we are sending help to Nippon. We will borrow money from China and give it to Nippon. Then we will owe China more. That is good for Both China and Nippon.

LOL - I LOVE your tag!!! I need to come up with a new one other than "Feed the Trolls" since I'm pretty much done feeding them. GG

Wow - that video is really spooky and yet doesn't seem to really show the sheer devastation. There's some other really telling videos from the link you posted. The death toll is rising so makes more sense with what is shown in the news scenes. The issues with the nuclear reactors looks like the most critical risk at the moment.

I know - like it's some monster creeping up out of the ground and will cover everything. Like quicksand.

Unbelievable. Over 10,000 likely dead and nuclear reactors melting down and the best you have are racist one liners. I guess people only deserve your compassion if they are in poor black countries. What a different reaction then there was for Haiti.

I hope your 'disdain' applies to your friend ILA and his snarky (Post #15) 'one liner', but we all know you only see things that you want to see.

Keep it real.

As for Japan . . . It is an unspeakable tragedy and my 'comapassion' does go out to the Japanese people at this time.

BN I know you think ILA is all things bad and evil but his question about where the celebs are is valid. The celebs poored over disasters like Katrina and Haiti but were dead silent with other US floods and now this disaster in Japan. No, that is no where near the same and there's no comparison to the extreme racism shown by comments mocking the way a Japanese person might speak English or the other nonsense (godzilla? really?) posted here. Now had this been a post about someone black, GG and the rest of you would be up in arms.

SPN - don't fret. I look at all disasters with the same lack of feeling and empathy. Frankly, the only people I give a damn about our my own friends and family. Sorry if that disappoints you. But at least I'm not some phony baloney pretending to care and really don't just to make myself look and feel good. Or, spout how much I care and never do a damn thing. With me, you can guess that I'm not going to do shit and if I can find humor in it, I will. We all die and death is always horrible. Get over it or, better yet, if you're so filled with compassion, go over there and volunteer or spend the next month raising money to send to them.

GG, did you watch the Maru video? At the end, there are numerous clips of him dive-bombing into cardboard boxes headfirst. I can't believe you as the resident cat lover, didn't comment on how cute he is.

I choose not to panic over Japan, especially on a pharma web board. I feel very bad for them and hope that countries other than the US go over there to provide help and aid.

And I hope Maru continues to be safe and does not glow in the dark.....although that would make from some spectacular youtube videos.

Sorry FT; we watch him all the time. He is a GREAT cat. I am so glad he's OK. He is probably one of YouTube's top video amusements. I love the paper bag stuff, where he slides across the floor.

LOL - Christian Science Monitor. . . OMG! They're Buddhists! Hey, tell your story to the soldiers who survived the Bataan death march. Let's see how eager their families are to help. (Being human does not have to include "saving the world.")

P.S. The reason Japan avoids making news statements: They don't want our help. Why not fund something here, like an initiative to save our dying cities or bring jobs back to America. You know, something that our kids can actually benefit from instead of more debt. Oh, wait! We ARE by in large Christain, so no conversion possibilities and NEW church funding.

Japan is actively asking for help GG. Millions are without food, water, or electricity in freezing night time temperatures. You can try to bash the source but you can find the same information on how to determine if a charity is reputable and advice on how to avoid scams from many other links. This just happened to be the first one connected to google news. The same organizations cited in that link are active in the US and around the globe and they aren't trying to convert anyone so no need to get all in a tizzy thinking that is the motivation. If you don't want to help, or simply can't help, that's your perogative but your lame attempts at not helping because of a previous war or because of the religion does not hide the racism evident in your posts. Yeah, yeah, I know all about the grandkid so YOU certainly aren't racist.:rolleyes:

Anyway, the link is there with some good advice for those who choose to donate to these kind of global disasters. While there is plenty we can do on our own soil, a global response is needed for something of this magnitude. If you don't agree, no one is forcing you to contribute.

Why not fund something here? Not only do I contribute to certain charities but the over $80K to the Feds for 2010 is contribution enough.
