Is this your best life?

I'm a former Alkermes employee and very grateful to be out. I would ask with all sincerity and respect to my former colleagues there...is this the best you can do with your life?

You work in a moribund toxic company full of cliquish favoritism, where "groupthink" is rewarded and is considered being part of the team, while and creativity and individuality is viewed as suspect. It is a place where mediocrity flourishes and abject failure is tolerated as long as those engaged in mediocrity and failure say the right thing to and about the boss. It is a place where a well-reasoned opinion based in fact is viewed as "contrarian" if it goes against the company dogma. It is soul crushing to watch, day after day, and see these clue-free, one-dimensional, amoral, automatons flourish.

Really my friends...its a great big beautiful world out here. There are plenty of employers you can be proud to work for. You owe it to yourself to make the most of the one short life you have. Is there a better time to make the jump than now? The unemployment rate is the lowest since 1967, the stock market roared ahead 24% in 2023, and wages are up in nearly all sectors. What are you waiting for? Launch your own rescue mission today. You'll be glad you did!

Open any companies board on here. A post the same as or similar to yours is on every one of them.

They’re all the same. If you don’t like it, going to another pharma company isn’t going to solve your problems.

this is the mindset that keeps you at Alkermes

you chose this mindset

you can choose a different one

All pharma companies are not the same, a truth you can’t experience until you leave this very toxic one

The goldfish can't imagine that there is a world bigger than their goldfish bowl. Some pharma employees can't imagine that employment opportunities and life options exist outside of pharma.

Bingo! There is nothing sadder than someone who is complicit in their own subjugation and captivity. It's like a workplace version of the Stockholm Syndrome.

Talk to anyone who has left Alkermes...voluntarily or otherwise. Can you find even one who says; "I wish I was back there." ?

Yes. Some aren’t even employed atm bc the company they went to laid them off.

I assume the people bitching here are on the CNS side. I’ve worked at big pharma and small pharma before Alkermes, I’ve enjoyed alkermes more than any of them. Not perfect, not without frustrations, but an overall gain.

I have made plenty of friends in the industry over the years. Some are happy with their company, many aren’t. Read the other company boards.

Comments suggest no one at Alks has ever experienced anything other than Alks…Most everyone at Alks has worked across pharma, from big pharma to small biotech start up…if we want to stay, we stay; if we want to leave, we leave. Simple as that.

Seriously, is it really better at other organizations? I’ve heard horror stories of how much worse it is. I’ve worked big pharma & biotech before Alks. It not great here, but not sure it’s worth rocking the boat.

As a previous Alkermes Employee, I can say I would never go back to that company. Extremely toxic, meetings all day with no time to do actual work. It is the epidemy of "the old boys club". The absolute worst Pharma I have worked for. Upper management does not care about anyone but themselves. They can't seem to get a working budget and are continually re-orging major departments trying to find efficiencies, but they never change the management? Now the divestiture and the selling of the Athlone site. How many people were just affected in the last 6 months? 120 for the oncology spin off? 400 for Athlone? I have moved on to a much better environment but when asked I have no issues telling anyone, I would never recommend the place. I tell everyone to steer clear.

The guy at the circus who walks behind the elephants and picks up shit is happier than the average Alkermes employee

Not true the toxicity is on the addiction side as well, the leadership is notoriously incompetent and favoritism runs rampant. Ask anyone and they miserable but can’t break the chain. Fear is a powerful deterrent
