Is this normal practice?

Yes this is, reps will push limits to open as many products as they can. Not to mention Arthrex always upgrading their kits with some new suture or punch and or anchor and literally charging double. Example??? Syndesmodic Tightrope, surgeons can use the original version for a fraction of the cost. However that’s not what Arthrex or Agency owners want. Use the new version it’s “better for the patient” and double the cost for us. See where I’m going. So to the guy above stop with your bullshit. You know you’re ripping off hospitals and the patients each day. This is not an Arthrex thing it’s an industry wide practice across all medical devices.

Says the guy ☝️ who opens a distal biceps kit for a fiberloop and speed bridge kit for a disposable punch. Arthrex reps are known for opening unnecessary items to raise up their sales. You’re pathetic to assume “everyone” does this and it’s part of the industry. You’re the problem

Hey accounts.

You can resterilize guide pins, drill bits, beath pins, taps, etc.

Also, you may consider abandoning kits and only opening what you need.

oh and since the Swivel Lock patent has expired there are more affordable options that can keep you case cost down.

The new Arthrex comp plan is based on growth so question any new products that they introduce. I can guarantee that any new products is good for them and bad for your margin.

If accounts only knew that many rotator cuff repairs could be done with 2-3 anchors and a couple of strands of suture. That instead of opening up a kit with multiple anchors, tape, and a disposable awl/tap.

be smarter

From what I am hearing about the new comp plan the examples of fraud will continue to rise. Agencies stand to lose a lot of money on this plan. They will resort to “working their book” to hit a number.

Hiring quotas, colored name badges, decreased commissions, nearly impossible bonus structure, “business development manager” for literally every division, compensation going down for every single person, more and more reps flooding the territory….I’m convinced that liberal socialist Reinhold wants everyone to fall in line

Arthrex is great technology that is utilized for sports medicine and orthopedics. No one can deny their equipment is the best and their facilities down in Naples are top notch. They do a phenomenal job training their reps as well as the fellows, surgeons that come through there. With that being said they have continued to push the envelope and have put profits above all else. To some of the earlier comments, you don’t need a speedbridge kit to fix a cuff, two anchors and some fiberwire will do. However this is not what corporate wants and therein lies the problem. In addition the way Arthrex is set up (Distributorship Model) also is a major factor as well. They need to go direct and cut out the middleman. In doing so would lower costs and make their technology more affordable to healthcare institutions. That’s another conversation for another day. These distributorships are poorly run, inefficient, and in turn every few years Arthrex has to come in and restructure one when they have gone off course. The latest one was Gotham surgical. They split that distributorship up into three for a myriad of different reasons but mainly due to poor leadership from the agency owner and the former VP of Sales as well as unethical sales practices. With that being said they (Arthrex & Distributors) pay their reps poorly and put extreme pressure on them to sell and grow. When you have that kind of environment the byproduct will be unethical behaviors. I know reps in different lines of orthopedics , Biologics, Spine, Etc… that do very well but this line of work is a grind and also is a young man’s game. My advice would be if your a younger man or women get your experience at Arthrex and either go someplace else or go work for Arthrex Corporate.

Well Stated… we cant keep reps at our agency… Owner and mgrs run them all off. Owner plays favorites with a few tm’s, comp plans change every qtr, asr’s told they will have additional incentives and they never do. Owners are a large part of the problem very few have the skills to really do their job. People can say what they want about Stryker but their rep retainment blows arthrex out of the water. Where else can you be a bartender one night and have a new job the next day with arthrex covering a multilig knee by yourself with no training!
