Is narcissism this rampant at all pharma companies?

Sales trends in territories are cyclical. Ups and downs are part of the nature of the job. Hire good people and let them do their jobs. Trust and respect for professionalism are sadly lacking in abundance here.

Yes, sales can be up and down and you may not finish in top 10% every year, but a good sales person always finds a way to be within top 20-30% when goals go up. I have a colleague who has been here 5 years (same territory/division) and he is proof of this—3 top 10% finishes, 1 top 15% and last year was his worst finish and it was top 25%.

Clinical narcissism is more than that definition. On the surface it does describe people but clinical level versus just being selfish is a whole different level. Go work in psych and you'll see true narcissisic personality vs narcissistic tendency

I don't believe the individual who posted this was diagnosing clinical narcissism. Just pointing out true narcissistic tendencies. And the tendencies are rampant throughout NVS.

I find the 3 million posters interesting, believe it or not. It’s unbelievable that people with so little talent and even less ambition can be set for life after 25 years of saving in a 401k, “working” at this “job.”

Agree. Who gives a shite that some completely anonymous nvs rep saved some $. Big deal. Goes back to the narcissism of nvs reps. Even being anonymous, this person wants praise. Give me a break!

Unfortunately, the entire American society is becoming very narcissistic. Who has the most likes, clicks, etc. It is very sickening.

However, Novartis seems to employee the absolutely neediest narcissists.

This thread is hilarious! And so true about reps in the CRM division especially.
No joke! I cannot wait to leave here. Culture sucks. So many fake reps. I have never been more embarrassed to work for a company. 2 RDs in a row that can't do their own excel reports. Yep. Ohio Valley. Nvs doesn't know what to do with great medicine

Accurate. CRM is flailing right now. Abls trying to justify jobs, territories/areas are too small, not enough targets, huge sales force bumping into each other. But we all keep nodding our heads...

Meanwhile in Primary Care, I’m the Lone Ranger trying to sell to thousands of prescribers who know nothing about it.....I can’t even come close to getting to them all.

Here's the definition of narcissism:

  • selfishness, involving a sense of entitlement, a lack of empathy, and a need for admiration, as characterizing a personality type.
More Novartians than I care to count almost desperately need admiration; almost all have a tremendous sense of entitlement and this IS characteristic of their personality type.

Don't think it could be any clearer.

My current DM exhibits extreme toxicity including Machiavellian and Narcissistic traits. He gaslights and demeans people and has been getting away with it for years. His inappropriate behavior with female subordinates/abusive behavior are even known to many physicians who don’t understand why reps don’t report him to his superior but unfortunately everyone is scared about potential retaliation from him, his supervisors, HR, and the company in general so even though people complain amongst themselves and individual and team productivity suffer, no one has the courage to unit and complain as a group. Narcissists tend to like money and power and their ability to be charismatic when necessary (a lot easier to do so when they rarely see their supervisors and their superiors never witness nor have the opportunity to witness how they act when dealing with people they seam inferior/IE their sales reps/employees. I work at AZ and I have heard rumblings that both the Respiratory Division - PC as well as Specialty is extremely toxic and a lot of people that have options are leaving.

Why are you scared of your boss? Take matters into your own hands. Posting about it on here is useless.
