First off, why do you think the company cares what you are doing at 1pm on a Monday anyway? Except of course if you are wasting valuable company time and surfing cafe farmer in the middle of the day?

This is a feature to help you, not a feature to track you.

Let's tone down the paranoia..
 












If they wanted to track where you turds are all day they would go to the local panera or the cafeteria in the local hospital where they will find the team of PODs talking about huge GPO wins and how to fire a staper.

BULLSH*T. It can and most likely would be used against someone. it's not mutually transparent. Reps can all be followed around, and analyzed via whatever metrics are being used. you want to reduce the paranoie?, provide the reps with the transparency of knowing where all managers are and what they are doing during the day and week. people don't like the idea of their privacy being violated by having a tracking geotracking device atteched to them. it's paranoie if you think people are after you. it's not paranoia if they really ARE putting the tools in place for gotcha.

even if someone worked in an office job, they'd have some privacy when they walked away from desk, or went to lunch either on premises or outside. and, they woudn't be expected to do only SOME of the job during the 8-5 time period, and the admin part of the job on their own time at nights and weekends.

i can use my own gps to make routes thank you.
 






So funny, the Ethigone rep in my territory has been in the front lobby for the last 3 hours staring at his IPad. I guess that is the new sales technique at Ethicon. I personally would find a friend at the hospital to hold my IPad while I went and played golf, that is if I was an Ethigone rep. Looking forward to the day I push out yet another rep and get to tell the new guy he doesn't have a fighting chance and that his wife had better get a job or his kids will starve. Wireless ultrasonic is about to make you guys extinct.

Thankfully, I don't work for anyone that monitors my daily movements with GPS and don't work for Ethicon or any of the other companies in this field. If I wanted that I would be a trucker or in pharma. However, it's comical that a Covidien rep would rip on a guy being tracked on his/her Ipad. Covidien is the same company that screens your posts on this site. It will not be long before Covidien joins the Ipad party.

That's a funny post. Ethigone....good one. I'll remember that. Wireless Ultrasonic(whenever that launches, kind of like the Covidien powered stapler that I've heard about for years) will make us extinct...I'll remember that one too. Better close up shop boys. An anonymous poster with witty nicknames told us so on CF.

Yup. I used to work for ATT and sold the iphones. You can turn the GPS off, but b/c it's a 3G, you can still be located...although not as accurate. But they can see if you're fucking around and not hitting your accounts.
 












is gps the same thing as location services? I thought gps was a separat app that needs locationsevcies in order to work. So fill us in more former att rep. I do my job, I just despise this big brother stuff that provides transparency only 1 direction. Id like to know where my manager is and managed care folks and such.

yaa, gps is different than location services. gps is a piece of the device. location services approximates your location based on cell towers and it's done through the service provider (i.e. att). the big brother stuff sucks, but more and more companies are giving their people these tools and keeping tabs on their wereabouts. i assume if you're hitting your numbers, while still fucking around a bit, you're probably fine.
 






the only thing that shuts off the gps radio is airplane mode. Airplane mode shuts off all the radios: wifi. 36, gps. Turning off location services doesn't turn the gps off.
