INTERVIEWS

Has ANYONE actually been scheduled for expansion interviews? All I get from recruiters is, "they are still waiting for schedule" I was told week of 11/3 but nothing after that.

Will current reps be allowed to interview for expansion territories that are closer to their home than current territories? Also will new RD openings be filled internally? I see you only need 3 years of sales experience to apply.

1) No, current reps cannot interview for expansion territories.
2) Yes/no, internal candidates can post. Like anything it will depend on experience and your interview. The hope is that they can be filled internally, though it is not a given. If you're interested definitely post. (They will offer relo for RD openings.) Good luck!

I am glad that I am NOT the only one who has not been scheduled, the phone interview went great and she assured me I would be going on to the next step.

Kind of last minute to have people fly into Philly next week. This is so bazar. Also I was on LinkedIn and noticed several reps that were RD and are now reps again? I saw at least 10 of these in all parts of the country. Is it common here for RD's to step down or was there something that happened in the past 3-5 years to cause so many to lose the position? I haven't seen that at other companies. I am assuming Sr. executive rep is a rep position based on the job description but maybe I incorrect in thinking this. Can anyone provide insight?

I agree on the last minute fly out. I was told there would also be a round the week of November 10th as well. The phone screener couldn't tell me if there would be counterparts with this position. Actually there was a lot he didn't know!

One week is for one part of the Nation and the other is for the other. Each territory will interview the same day with all of the canidiates for that territory.

Yes, there are counterparts for this position. Current reps are not very enthused about this as we have never had counterparts before.. Many came to Shire from B2B or other solo territories for this reason. Several have left or are leaving the organization because of this change. Therefore, if you accept a position here just know that your new teamates may not be very welcoming of you at first. Expect to be scrutinized. If you can handle that, you may do very well here. At the end of this 6-9 month 'team selling' experiment, maybe you will be the sole rep in the territory. One thing is for sure, after launch only one rep will remain. Good luck.

Thanks for the insight! Don't know why some companies can't get that the pod/counterpart model is over. Physicians don't have time for multiple reps with the same product.

Yes - the exec sales specialist is a rep job.
There was a significant layoff about 2 years ago. Also there used to be a position that was not sales but involved educating the psychologists and mental health community. This role was eliminated.
Yes- the interview process is being done quite haphazardly - not typical Shire - there is a new VP of neuroscience.

For your interview be sure to ask about the layoff in 2012. Ask why they laid off 112 reps to "right size" and now are expanding by 105 reps (very close to the lay off number..hmmm). - But instead of shrinking our large territories and going back to the original individual sales model, (which brought in results and also allowed for high frequency) they have decided to throw us all into the same territory so we can trip over each other.

does anyone have any idea how many candidates per position they are going to hire? I am going to be there and they said that I would know that day if I was hired or not.

The goal was 3 per territory. But it was so unorganized and last minute some territories couldn't get 3 people and may have less. Many are already already hand selected by KK. Ask lots of questions and good luck.

Part of the country has interviews this week in Philly. The rest of the country are next week in Chicago. Candidates are only being given one or two days notice to travel, so just because you have not heard anything does not mean you won't get an email. No phone calls all communication through email. Also, it is highly unlikely that every position will be filled by the end of next week. Candidates still have to go through background check and actually accept the job.

If you don't get it, not to worry. Do you really want to work for a company that conducts a hiring process in this manner? And gives such little consideration to the candidates?
