IMPROVE-IT

I wouldn't get so excited, Skippy. The study is a failure…at best.
How the 'full of shit' seem to know everything! If there is any incremental benefit it will be positive for the franchise...Period! You and your negativity are indicative of failure both mentally and morally...you're probably a friggin liberal trial lawyer waiting for an ambulance!

if there is any incremental benefit in any subgroup it will still be more evidence for using zetia with a statin than crestor has for switching from generic to a brand name statin.
crestor is selling billions with no evidence that switching patients does anything.
providers are asking for evidence from zetia (reasonable) but closing their eyes on demanding the same data from crestor.
the only outcomes crestor has are against placebo not against other statin therapy. and certainly not high dose statin therapy.
the bar for evidence has always been higher for zetia than crestor

Outcomes baby... Tunnel vision with LDL lowering..

A lower LDL baby, gets you outcomes baby. Whether you lower LDL with a statin baby, or ezetimibe baby, or surgically (as in an earlier study), or with a resin. A significant reduction in LDL over time is what will drive the outcome of IMPROVE-IT. Name for me an OUTCOMES study (CV Events) with at least a 10% reduction in LDL that did not improve outcomes.

So LDL lowering will be the end game?

You morons are delusional.

Zetia does nothing to help anyone. This study will show that.

i dont think anyone said this study would be positive. they said IF it was.
and LDL lowering seen with zetia with HIGH dose statin is substantially less than the lowering seen with LOW dose statin. the additional LDL lowering in improve it was not that great.

It's all about time. If you could be on the drug long enough (like a lifetime) then an outcome difference would likely be observed.

It's still not clear whether treatment length in IMPROVE-IT will be enough.

I say it will be DISPROVED-IT. Almost 20,000 patients and over 5000 events and the study still has to go all the way until the end of 5 year follow-up?? Absolutely no way the absolute difference in event rates will be clinically meaningful, even if it is of borderline statistical significance

Most likely scenario, inconclusive results. Merck will maintain skeleton crew to promote/service products until patent expiry. Ride the cash cow until she dies in the barnyard. Best quote ever, "cholesterol did not exist until Merck developed a drug to treat it". It's been a good ride.

C'mon, people. Surely someone out there knows a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy who talked to someone who has seen the results or got a whisper from someone who has. Let's hear it!

I've been on VYTORIN for 15 years. I have had a detailed physical each year. Each year my stats are better (arterial flexibility, heart function in stress tests, lipids, liver function normal etc etc). Dad had blocked arteries and heart attack at my age now... Sure, clinical trial of one has no meaning, but hey, who knows what will the outcome will be

Pretty funny line actually

I wouldn't be so quick about your assessment of the study. I've heard that there was incremental benefit, and it was safe. We'll have to wait and see. We might be ok. Maybe I should say I hope we're ok

Ya yah

This is a great example of why you don't rely on CP-especially from merck employees-for accurate news. IMPROVE-IT hit its endpoint. Not sure how it will all play out but its great news for the company-despite how the company continues to be managed. But its obvious that nobody in the sales force is pumped to work for merck based on the past 10 years of behavior. Its been so negative. We'll see how this chapter plays out. Merck reps are too negative-and for understandably good reasons. Not sure much will change with the current leadership in place.
