If You Had The Power, What Changes Would You Make At AZ In 2011?

I am sure that there are many out there, that take their job serious and are hard workers that would want some if not all of the same things.

1. I would force rank everyone in the district on a monthly and quarterly basis
2. I would make sure people are working at least 7.5-8 hours in the field a day, no exceptions.
3. Would put a kabosh or preferential treatment for working moms , some and not all that only work 4-5 hours per day. They would be placed on PIP's.
4. I would no longer allow counterparts taking other peoples credit
5. I would demand 12-15 calls per day
6. I would put a kabosh on the amount of doctors in an office that you could place on your computer as a call.
7. I would monitor heavily PSS's that are not in the field, internal and external GPS and investigative research on them, if anything looks suspicious.
8. I would make sure that the individual including manager has been background checked in full. Over the past months there have been managers and PSS's with less than stelar work history and ethics ,go to other companies and falsify information
9. I would make sure that all are expences are double and triple checked, no longer trying to misappropriate costs and expences.
10. No longer should we tolerate below stelar performers. They should pull up someones work history at AZ, if one is not cutting it ,out the door.
11. Compensations should be reviewed and re reviewed
12. Restructure of sales forces. The MC teams should merge into one, CNS should be looked at and revamped or they should be force ranked with ONC and CVAS for jobs. The Hospital team needs to be re done, dead weight needs to be gone. H1 was not forced rank last year against H2, had they many H1 team members would of been gone due to performance. All H1 that are not up to par, they should be gone.

Managers that do no have a good performance out the door. And I do not mean with the exception of COE, for you could of gotten their by your PSS's. I am talking about your own performance, they should be gone or placed somewhere else. Re evaluate management that should be in another position.


** I know some of you non performers or those that do not work will disagree and post 100 reasons why. Here is a heads up". there will be major changes being done. In order for us to keep our jobs and profit for the company, some major changes need to happen soon.

Other than directives and ultimatums, what motivating would you offer the sales force other than a kick in the pants? Working Mom's on PIP's. Gosh Adolf. 12-15 calls per day. Again this cookie cutting crap. Some people can reach this, others cannot. Whatever number you set people will state the metric regardless. And what the hell is a stellar performer? Do you ever see what happens to peoples ranking? It often fluctuates drastically. Your environment would only create paranoia, or are we already at that present state of existence?

how do you make the number of calls you expect when you KNOW most doctors do not see reps? the Kaizen project was such a joke. the NO SEE Drs remained NO SEE drs even though dedicated reps called on them more.

I'd have the students as part of that project take over and run the executive functions of AstraZeneca, for real. All of the current leadership would be fired immediately, and let the students come in and start over fresh.

I bet they could turn the company into a profitable entity where the employees are happy to work hard and passionately contribute, and there would be emergent benefits from the beneficial management team. The organization might even make a real contribution to human health, if the leadership could be completely replaced.

Bet you there'd be an end to corruption, self serving at the expense of shareholders, and bitching for a raise when you're already making millions per year. Lots and lots of things would be fixed if the assholes running this joint could be removed.

Excellent quote, and boy does it apply to AZ. With AZ, it's SOS just a different year. We now have a day long meeting to go to (MCL) for really no apparent reason, except to do nothing but their dumb ass role playing. Again, same old worn out, useless thinking. Excellent, with some modifications - I'd cut the sales force significantly, and cut that 12-15 call requirement. If you're in downtown Chicago it's very easy to see 12 docs; if you're in Gettysburg, PA it would logistically be more difficult. Dropping by the office of 12 no-show Docs is not effective, even if you do get to see the poor receptionist. I'd rather see a few actual quality calls than a large number of ineffective calls.

You seem surprised that there's corruption among the representatives, and you offer a cure for corrupt representatives. You can't get there from here.

You see, the entire system of pharmaceutical sales is corrupted, or at least very different than most products for sale. You don't get your pharmaceuticals in any form of a free market -- patient's access is fettered, prices are not controlled by market forces, and the people paying for the product aren't the same people using the product. Considering these factors, do you believe that the same business rules that apply to selling copiers should apply to selling pharmaceuticals? Or that the salesman's performance can be measured and compensated in an analogous way? The copier salesman who doesn't get checks to the company doesn't make any money either, you see. That's a pure sales job, pharmaceuticals really isn't, whether you believe it or not. And yes, the copier salesman who lands a big national account makes beaucoup cash and doesn't have to work, so long as the orders keep coming in.

Consider also there are doctors who want samples and no more than one sales call a year. If the rep does a stellar job and the doctor uses his product based on that one annual call, should the rep be penalized?
