I Think It Is Time To Leave!

Sitting here having my morning cup of coffee and reading these CafePharma forums shows me the total disjunction occurring here at DNA! These posts are vindictive and vile.

I don’t know what’s worse, the idiots lying on CNN or MSNBC or some these idiots here in DNA? What happened to us Biogen, Roche, or have we just rotted from the inside>out?
Drunk on the success of some transformational science by brilliant people in R&D. We Commercial folks are just riding the easy wave of their triumphs!

The smart people have left the building on their on terms like Troy and most recently Kevin J. and Liz H. Might be time to leave this pack cannibals behind.

Time to move on just wish I could get that tasty package

People need to realize that most of the trashy messages on here originate from people from other companies, disgruntled employees already gone, and people that were turned away and never got the job.
The truth is that most of us are scared out of our boots about losing our jobs and disheartened by the powerful promises and many convincing words while being interviewed and thanked when we were hired. Many of us left very good jobs and now there is no turning back. Those jobs have come and gone and many of us are filled with regret. Now we get the answers ITS JUST BUSINESS. We were hoping it was going to be very different here.
In the end, it is different here. Under the guise of a caring company, is a sickening culture that pits rep against rep and breeds the need and requirement to embarrassingly promote oneself constantly to make it here unlike any other.
People have often stated this, but if you ever want to get a true feel of the environment at Genentech, all you need to do is watch Tom Hank’s movie THE CIRCLE. You will say to yourself unbelievable, this is GNE. Have you ever looked up the word kiss-up in the dictionary? It truly defines the typical A-hole that works here. The type of A-hole they love here. You know. We all know. The ones that often need to hear their own voice on conference calls, the ones that often need to make a statement or ask a question to COLT leadership in front of everyone, even the one that has gotten someone fired to get their territory, and the ones that takes other people’s ideas and use them as their own. GNE loves that type no matter how disingenuous they may be. The definition? suck up to. Verb phrase. To flatter and cajole someone; curry favor with someone; brown-nose, suck ass: he/she gets ahead by sucking up to the boss.

You hit the nail on the head. It’s been difficult to put into words the toxic environment here, but you captured it perfectly. The people in management and leadership are encouraging the back stabbing and self promotion. Everyone sounds like they are reading from the same corporate script...and let me tell you, it isn’t inspiring anyone. I left a great job, like many, looking for that special something here. Unfortunately, it is this strange combination between The Circle and Jamestown.

As many have said before - this isn't your father's Genentech. The secure leaders with vision left awhile back. We all saw the exodus after Art and Sue left and big pharma drones filled the void. Such a shame. Don't waste anymore time or energy here as life is too short.

I left Genentech after 13 years and its the best move I've made. When i began my tenure at DNA it was a great company, amazing culture, and not a negative thing I could say about it. The last 2 years were a disaster. Horrible managers, and people being hired who were clueless contributing to the overall disarray in the brands. The market cap is now 188 billion, less then Pfizer, and Novartis, and soo to be much lower as bio similars gut the company. Gene will soon be surviving on just 2 drugs, Ocrevus, and eventually Hemlibra. Esbriet is a dud and off patent in 3 years, Xolair facing huge competition from Regeneron, and Astra which means sales can only go down. Bio onc is being owned by Merck and Bristol as Keytruda is the best Onc drug out there. There really isnt that much to get excited about at Gene and the only hope is 2022 when alzheimers studies read out but thats a huge long shot.

I have to say this is the best written thread on here. The combination of the movie The Circle and Jamestown does say it all. I have never worked for a company where you’re always looking behind your back before one of your coworkers can slit your throat. I’m not exaggerating about this. We all know what recently happened to the girl that just got fired. She was taken out by members of her own division to get parts of her territory and she wasn’t the first that this happened to. These specific women are cutthroat. It literally sounds like a script from a movie but unfortunately it’s real, very real here. This is a brutal environment and I’m so glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. If you’re not going after another job showing growth, or on a committee, or up someone’s ass, then you aren’t cutting it here. The meetings are the worst where your coworkers hang onto every single word you say, hoping in some way you will slip and they can say something about you. I recently rented The Circle with a few of my girlfriends. What was meant to be a fun evening amongst friends, because a terrible one as I told them how much this movie was like the culture here. We then Spent the rest of the night talking about the work environment here. Look, I can get along with just about anyone out there. But here, somehow it’s different. It’s very difficult to find anyone you can really trust here. I have also seen firsthand as my coworkers have ripped on other specific coworkers whenever they aren't around and even have gone to our manager about it. You can’t help not to wonder if they are saying and doing things to them, then more than likely they are doing it to me. I miss my old company but like others have said, I can’t go back now. My territory is filled. The grass is not always greener and do t always believe what people tell you. I legitimately feel I do a very good job here and don’t feel like I should spend anytime worrying if I have a job or not. That’s why I supposedly came here in the first place! To all the spastic kiss-ups I work with, and the manager that doesn’t support or give a damn about me, you can all go and suck it. Thanks for nothing.

I finally left GNE after 10 years of an ever-increasing toxic environment. My new company appreciates my skills, is willing to pay me for them and I work with an excellent manager. No, everything is not perfect as my products are in very competitive oncology markets and my geography is totally different but, hey, those things are nothing if I'm in a positive environment. It's difficult to walk away from something you've put so much into but chalk it up to lessons learned and start looking for a new situation. Unfortunately, GNE will be stuck in this mode for quite some time - are you sure you want to wait it out?

I’m pretty sure that 2/3 of the MS franchise is miserable. The sales reps, the reimbursement team, and now the patient navigators. I’m not sure if it’s the Roche managers, the Biogen managers, or the Big Pharma managers...perhaps even the Genentech people, but it’s pretty brutal. I have never seen such incompetent people running a franchise. I am hopeful that I will be laid off and can just live my life without another “pilot,” “committee,” or “waste of time meeting or conference call” sucks up any more of my brain cells that no one cares to have me share. It is the worst position I have ever had...worked more than ever, appreciated less and a clueless manager and leadership team. I can’t be the suck up or the bullsh**er to get ahead so I and many will be left to eat our own guts out

Even if they laid off just one person, it makes everyone second guess where they are working, especially on such a successful launch. Genentech please take care of your own.

Help me understand how this culture is different than many in corporate american.

Many reps here were highly overpaid and not accountable to their number. This has to change.

Good luck. Life is a circle.

You don’t need help understanding anything. It’s obvious what your intention is to do on here and that is to increase anxiety and get people upset. You haven’t clue what you’re talking about while trying to come off in such a patronizing way. Everyone is accountable in sales and someone’s pay is none of your business. Karma is fantastic because you, the poster, will get yours in the end. Nasty people like yourself get their rocks off by doing things like this buyback we all hope and wish you will be the one without a job or hopefully worse!!! You’re absolutely right. Life is a circle and the disgusting residue that sometimes rises to the top, eventually gets filtered out. Goodbye trash.

Yes. Agreed. Have you seen our stock price lately? We need to be lean.

You are a bunch of sick and cruel people. If they become more lean, hopefully they will cut you!

Not trying to be sick or cruel, just honest. Again, have you seen the stock price lately? Maybe this will sound better, lil snowflake, the company needs to be omptmized. Feel better now?

Oh my God. Are you that much of an idiot? Stock prices can fluctuate up and down all the time for no reason. Genentech once again had exceeded $ predictions. You are so uneducated. Go away idiot.
