I Miss Genentech

For those who are debating staying or going, don’t let sentiment fool you. Make a decision you know is right for you. It’s true the grass can always look greener. The grass doesn’t always need to be perfectly green. I liked Genentech a lot and I also found happiness elsewhere and I know others have as well. Genentech doesn’t any longer lead the culture and certainly not the true leadership ability of the industry. It’s a great place with great people, and to my friends who are searching their souls looking for other opportunities, know they exist.

Thankful for this post. I’m sorry that the original poster hasn’t found his/her happy place but Genentech is nothing without it’s concerts and big meetings in Vegas and San Diego. People on the outside sigh at what a mess it’s become and how the company pretends all is great!
 






For the original person who posted, while I do not know all of the context, keep your head up and find another fit. There really are much better companies than genentech. They won't be perfect, but the company you want to come back to is a joke now. Other great companies do exist, and I'm so happy for the success stories I've personally heard from ex colleagues.

Gifts, nice "vacations" with the colleagues you like, concerts, work life balance, honestly that was the only good part of genentech. And even then, you still have to play nice with the backstabbers. That all gets old, plus the multiple reorgs where people don't know what the fk they're doing or going in their development, change in the name of change.

It's not real change when people above our pay grade haven't had an enormous shift while the rest of us suffer. And then good luck with more backstabbers when everyone is clawing to stay when biosims comes. Getting my popcorn out to watch Survivor at genentech! Be happy you left the dump!
