How much longer for HIV?

Not long at all. I'm thinking dec. April seems like a loooong shot. The tough part is the nice bonus you MIGHT get if your sales are good :\ If you have something else lined up tho., time to jump ship NOW. Sad as most of the sales/marketing team have been around a long long time together and now its all breaking up =( All good things must end at some point I suppose. Can't blame us for bailing tho. we have been asking for literally 2 to 3 years what our future is and never once got a positive answer.....personally I don't blame the company either tho. just is what it is.

I'm thinking you guys might have sold enough XR to buy you some time. How long? Who knows, but June seems possible if things stay good. Bottom line is that you are making BI money even though some of you (you know who you are) are somewhat overpaid in the present market. Shouldn't feel bad about that though - being overpaid is a significant accomplishment in itself.

Any new thoughts about December layoffs after recent POA mtgs?

June sounds nice but probably a pipe dream. The IR patent expires in May of '12, so my best guess is April of '12. Maybe, BI will keep a skeleton crew of 30 reps in major markets but that too is probably a pipe dream.

This probably sounds lame and I'm sure I'll get ripped on for this but I'm sad :( I'm really so sad this is all coming to an end. The people in HIV really are a classy bunch - and smart, and talented, and funny, and loyal. I've been with other divisions and with other companies and truly nothing can compare to the HIV group here... The other divisions at BI can't hold a candle to ours on so many levels. I will really miss this.

Well said. It was a great run.

So when they let the first wave of HIV reps go several years ago, did you notice? Did you think it would not happen to you? Did you even bother to phone up the reps that were let go and say goodbye? Karma to you and the division that sat around and thought you would be spared ....the writing was on the wall and shame on you for being caught unaware...

Hey, sorry no one called you. It's not karma, it's just business. And who got caught unaware - nobody is hiding what is coming.

Hey...its ok. I ended up in a better place. I think anyone still in HIV at BI is caught/snagged. You are right, its not unaware but it is silly to still be there after they started laying off 3 yrs ago....it is not smart business to be scrambling for a job right now in this market unless you have something lined up or are leaving the industry....why? why wait this long?

I think people stayed for different reasons but no one should feel bad that they are still here- lots of things were said that never happened. Regardless, most people will never get the job that we had for one year and we have had so many great years. So thankful and so grateful for the job and so sad to see it go-but no hard feeling here. During its day- it was a magical place to be!

Glad you are so happy. Glad for you it was magical. I thought it was Nightmare on Elm Street. My point is why wait for the axe to chop your head off? Why not get out before with another job...you cannot negotiate with another company for a great base ect when you are unemployed....many companies will not interview those without a job....I cannot blame them, I would not want to interview anyone who waited out a layoff. I just would not want to be in this situation..I would have ran for the exits long ago...good luck

We basically gave away the rights last week to an new type of Integrase Inhibitor to Gilead. This is throwing in the towel folks. BI is saying, we would rather get royalties and focus our efforts and resources on another area because we just don't have enough on the market or in the pipeline to justify moving forward in this division.

Last person out the door please cut out the lights...

I'm thinking April is now our new cut off date? Guess it could be as late as July? (hopefully) so sad. Have loved BI for many years now, will be sad to see this job gone.

so when is the drop dead date? How many have gotten out? How bad is it out there as far as finding another job?

If you are looking at staying in HIV there are few options...but the good new is there are very few in HIV to compete with so you should be able to get a job if one comes up with Gilead ect.....if you are lloking more broadly, if you look hard and have networked like hell and have it pulled together, there are a few jobs out there....but it is very competitive...very
good luck

Thank you for the respectful reply. I completely agree with your points. Good luck. I hope you are not in HIV and/or BI. I recently left BI for a more stable company and it really pains me to see some of the nice people at BI get slaughtered.

I got out two years ago and haven't looked back (except here on CP and some bitching to friends or anyone who will listen about how much I hated BI) I am 35k above my old (embarassing) base and making around the same or more bonus....I never thought I would make any salary jump..but it is possible...BI is the worst..yes, lots of nice folks...but the most lackluster company in existince

No one really knows. We are down to about 50 reps for the nation anyway at this point. It is really getting very hard. We have been asking for years tho. w/out any info about it. Everyone is stressing like crazy about it. How can we stand it? We can't really, but don't really have any other choice. The market is possibly the worst time in years to be looking.
