How many maternity leave days to men get?

Men get 5 days. Used to be only 3 days, but it went up to 5 a couple years ago.

Women get up to 6 weeks for standard birth, 8 weeks for C-section. After that they have to use FMLA (unpaid).

I wonder if those differences might have anything to do with the reason why women have historically been paid differently?

It shouldn't. The 6-8 weeks off is medical leave. No different than back surgery or a knee replacement. For anyone that has given birth, you know your body, hormones, and sleep schedule is not normal this fast. Paternity leave for men is to allow time to regroup with the life changing addition of a child and five days is a joke, but there is no medical need. Most businesses are pretty stingy on medical leave regardless of the condition. But pay differences are there because companies can get by with it and the simple fact that women are not as good at selling themselves and negotiating for more.

You're wrong.... pregnancy compared with back surgery is not valid. Both Men and women get knee and back surgery and probably MOST do not get it at all before retirement. ONLY women get pregnant. Most women get pregnant, sometimes multiple pregnancies.... this requires alot of time out of the field which leads to disruptions in business and lost productitvity. How can you pay men and women the same based on those inescapable, inherent differences? You can't nor should you.

I cannot believe a sane person wrote this. I think it's written by someone with a lot of time on their hands and they are just looking for an arguement on CP. Don't waste your time with this person.

You can't dispute my post yet you post anyway.... who is it REALLY that has too much time on their hands?

Darn those pesky women, getting pregnant all by themselves.

And BTW, men have far more heart attacks, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

This is a statistical fact and an historical reason why women get paid less than men... women are more inclined to take extensive time-off from work directly linked to pregnancy. This is not about how unfair you think it is that it was a man who got them pregnant.... your point has NO relevance whatsoever. So based on the fact that women cause more disruptions in work and take more time off than men which leads to less overall productivity, why should a woman expect a company to pay her as much as a man? Can you just answer that simple question?

Therefore, women who are lesbians, over the age of conception, or not having children should be paid more because they are not wasting time having a baby? While you are in your mother's basement between games of D&D, also figure into the "statistical facts" that these women do not have the medical risks of men, so are you saying that they should be paid more than you? Poor little peckered man--bet you have been burning since some of the women got the harrassment settlement too!!! Wonder how paronia affects your sales?

When you decide to stop obsessing on men's pecker size and actually try to make a rationale point, let me know and I will be more than happy to deconcstruct you and any pathetic arguement you want to make. I'll be waiting.

Clearly Novartis and the men at Novartis haven't learned anything from the recent gender discrimination law suit. Only when male managers (majority of our entire FLM, MD and our entire GM team) start treating women fairly, provide them equal pay, vacation time, review and rank the same as men at year end review and promote at the same rate will the gender discrimination stop.

As you can see gender discrimination still runs fast and furious at Novartis and every women in this company should be documenting and we can quickly come forth with gender discrimination suite #2.

As a male rep, I must agree with the last couple posters. I am ashamed that someone (I can only assume it is one person, the rants are all the same) is so insecure in himself that he has to disparage anyone on gender--this is NOT a valid argument. It is the responsibility of management to monitor results, if any rep is falling down they should not be rewarded at the level of a performing rep. To obsess because someone may have taken a leave of absence, or worry because someone calls into question the size of their genitals is foolish and sophomoric. When we are all working to keep whatever job we have, why waste energy on whining every day because someone may have had a baby, may think of having a baby or any other perceived inequality. Grow up!

Yet you refuse to address the other health issues that plague men far more than women, causing time off work. Or the simple fact that men are wimps when they are sick and call in to work thinking they are dying when they have the sniffles. Face it, you just can't stand the competition and that women are better at your job than you are.

What is fair? Your perceived gender discrimination is based on one thing.... PREGNANCY. Women get pregnant and they extensively disrupt business possibly multiple times throughout a career. Oftens times they completely leave their positions permanently. This is NOT meant as a criticism, it is a FACT. Moreover, it is a fact that can not be ignored. Completely take gender out of the equation and put yourself in the position of hiring someone.... Candidate A will not miss work and stay continuous with the company for 20+ years. Candidate A will not expect to take leaves from work 2-4 times in a career for 12+ weeks at a time. Candidate B will likely miss work and cause extensive disruptions in business several times throughout a career. Candidate B will expect to take leaves from work at least once, but more likely 2-4 times at a minimum of 6 weeks but more like 10-12 weeks at a time. Candidate B, after spending thousands of dollars to train, is more likely to stop working all together than Candidate A which leads to a complete waste of resources for the company.
So it is clear that candidate A and B are not equal and should not be paid as equals.... they certainly don't get leave-time as equals. The facts are clear and inescapable.
