How can I get my manager fired?

Merck is the third company Ive worked for and my manager is an absolute asshole! He sends nasty emails and uses unnecessarily harsh language when disciplining. Everyone in my district hates him except the asskisser that is trying to win presidents club. She talks to him everyday. Ive heard his boss is an ass and stuff is being pushed down but that is no excuse. Every manager has quirks but this is ridiculous. We give him bad stakeholder feedback and our culture scores arent the greatest but nothing changes. The only thing I have done to shut him up is focus on selling so my numbers are good. Then I can throw that back in his face.

Welcome to the Akron-Canton district in Northern Ohio.

Record him saying something off-label, sexist or racist. Or, Report him to HR ... At your own risk, of course. Or, let your numbers tank. That will hit him where it hurts. It may not hurt to go ahead and have an employment attorney on call.

Ummmm......How long have you worked for Merck? Don't you know by now that numbers don't matter one bit? It doesn't matter how good the numbers are, if he has direction from above to clean house then he will do it at all costs!!!! The bad stakeholder feedback probably just pissed him off more- Sorry to say, but it is a hopeless situation- Upper management is on his side! Not yours!!!! Y'all best be lookin for new employment! Or check yourself into a mental facility- sounds like it is only gonna get worse!!!

you can't. That is part of the Merck corruption...The managers earn their big money not by being a resource, or by being good coaches...At this point, they are there strictly to make you miserable and get you to quit...They know the drug rep job is basically useless at this point and they have too many reps.

Managers almost always survive at Merck...Someday, this company will be all managers (and a few reps) I think...LOL!!

I keep a file on my current manager. Jot down dates/times/place/occurrence. I also tape every conversation with my manager. Heaven help my manager if they every try any crap with me. I document EVERYTHING. I have reached my tolerance for the BS. BTW, I have NEVER had to do this before now.....previous managers were great/wonderful to work for/or at least tolerable......this one is HORRIBLE!!!

There's nothing you can do. Merck likes to those type managers. Going to HR is futile, you might be able to talk to an ombudsman someone who investigates complaints. But there really is no way out but to transfer out.

You may be on to something with the Obudsmen. He does make inappropriate comments about some of my female customers......hmmmm. May have to think about that.

Don't waste your time with the Ombudsman. That's a complete farce. Keep the digital recorder running. Your attorney will appreciate that.

Ask them for the handraiser option to leave with next round of layoffs.

Merck loves lousy, demeaning managers. The worse they are, the longer they get to stay. I would not recommend going to HR. I did this with an issue and they immediately ran to my manager and told him verbatim what I said. I think the Ombudsman role is trustworthy though...I think.

HR Partner is paid by Merck - no go.

Ombudsman never return my call.

The Merck Ethics Line is run by an outside vendor who would take your information, assign a case number, and turn around and ask you to call the above two.

The above scenario has happened to 3 or 4 of my colleagues who are no longer with Merck.

Good luck.

You mean stakeholder feedback counts for everyone but managers?

Are the managers legacy MRK or Schering?

Remember the managers job is to weed YOU out, not the other way around. I too, tried all of the above suggested options. The mananger is still there at Merck. Do the best you can, and keep your options outside the company VERY open.

What are your managers initials?

Do not under any circumstances go to the Ombudsman! As with HR, they are not there to protect you or your interests. They are in place to protect the managers. If you think going to the ombudsman is kept confidential - think again. Best advice? Keep documenting everything - dates, names, places, and get a good employment attorney - one who specializes in discrimination in the workplace.
