2 weeks per year with a max of 26. That's what is supposedly on orbit. Go verify it for yourself.

This is a pretty pathetic severance package. 2 weeks minimum in this economy is very very sad especially around the holidays. I would hope Shire would take better care of their employees who have been loyal and worked hard for this company over he years. Surly they can do better than what Pfizer, Roche and BMS did for their people.

Seems not fair. When they fire people they pay them for 2/3 months so you would think they would do a little better for a severance package. 6 months would be fair. 10 weeks for a 5 year employee is nothing!

Everyone needs to keep in mind that a severance package offer is just a jumping off point. Just like anything it can and should be negotiated. On average you will have 21 days to decide or counter. You can make the argument that you will need and deserve a longer severance due to variables like geography, unemployment rates, average time to obtain a similar position, etc. Other things can also be negotiated like insurance, car package extensions you name it but if you do not ask you will not receive. For those that do get let go (if any, remember everything we have heard is only speculation until it actually happens) you need to do your research and hold Shire accountable for the actions (or lack there of) that have led to the company having to downsize at to no fault of your own. Legally, they aren't required to offer you shit! You work for a great company that WANTS to do the right thing, even in tough times. If the worst should happen, take what you can get and be thankful you didn't spend your career somewhere that doesn't give a damn about you.

I would hope they would do the right thing. Pfizer offered their employees a 3 month minimum plus 1 week per every year, Genentech offered their employees 6 month minimum. Both companies had a standard 2 week severance policy in the books but adjusted it because of this economy. Pfizer did their layoffs over the holidays too and include car package. Right is right. Take care of your employees they will soon become your customers.

I don't think the "lay-offs" are going to be that significant in number. What I do think will happen is that we will transition alot of reps to hybrid or advocacy style reps, which will earn a far different type of commission. The reps they keep as traditional sales reps will also face a far different commission structure. This will force alot of great reps out the door, as long as they can find another position somewhere else. Long story short, there will be far less sales reps at Shire, and if this strategy works they will save themselves A TON of $$ on severance packages.

save money on severence packages? Vyvanse will gross 1.5 BILLION dollars this year. Paying reps who have generated millions to the bottom line is the least they can do!

All signs are pointing to an announcement in two weeks or so. Not sure if this will be the layoff announcement or not. But again, I don't think there will be that many layoffs.
