Happy New Year Everyone!

Yeah but at least we have a leadership team on the PCX side that loves to talk about themselves. 90 minute call that could be a quick 30. God the self indulgent EBD. Give it a rest Mickey. Surprised he didn’t mention he played college ball.
AZ is either incapable of hiring good leaders, or they just don’t want good leaders.

I came to Pharma from another industry a few years ago because it’s understood that this is fairly well paid gig for doing essentially nothing. This job has never satisfied the soul, but what I find most interesting is the low quality of “leadership” we have to endure to keep the charade going. Some of the leaders discussed on this thread are amazingly average (at best) yet you would think we have high-caliber “executives” based on job titles, salaries, etc. The drive to maximize company profits above all else keeps people locked into a “career” that leaves them feeling empty inside yet unwilling to jump to something else because they know they’d have to work harder for less pay, and the people who care the least about the emptiness (or those who don’t feel the emptiness) are always the ones promoted into the “leadership” roles. We will never have good leaders because that would be too disruptive to the scam.

It’s Pharma, bud. You don’t come here to work for a great leader. Enjoy your paycheck.

Only 90 mins? I remember old Yamamoto himself talking about the good old days in college for 2 hours on stage.

No kidding! If you want to lead or work for leaders, you should’ve become a military officer. People who come to Pharma are here for a well-paying, 3 hr per day job. I retired from Pharma with nearly 30 yrs and I don’t regret it one bit. I made a decent living, sent kids to college, and probably actually worked 20 hours per week. Most people were pretty nice, if not a little light intellectually, and the benefits were better than most of my non-industry friends. I don’t feel like I did anything really meaningful professionally, but I did right by my family, and that mattered to me most. In all those years, I don’t recall working for anyone who I’d call a great leader, and that includes everyone up to or through the VP level, but that’s ok; I wasn’t expecting to work for a great leader. I always laugh at these posts that talk about how bad leadership is in Pharma. Can you imagine a bunch of computer scientists struggling over the fact that there aren’t enough extroverts in their work place, or MMA fighters struggling over the fact that their colleagues aren’t in touch with their feminine side?

Good For You! I too recently retired from Pharma. Like you I supported my family and have a nice nest egg to support me now while I pursue other interests. You are absolutely correct, the people in this industry are Not Leaders. Brown Noses get promoted regularly and the wrong people are in “leadership “ roles. I know of one in the SE who prides herself on getting “rid” of dead wood, to Her! So Grateful I am OUT and wish others well. It’s a Jungle Out There! Anyone young enough should get out. This is no longer a “Career Position”.

The only people worse than the so called leaders are the HR miscreants who serve as a sort of praetorian guard for the incompetent leaders. These people should be the first to go if we want to create a positive culture. They are supposed to ensure that issues are treated impartially, but they actually do the opposite; they will find ways to support the “company” people (almost always those in leadership roles since they have shown they’re willing to sacrifice integrity for the wishes of their overseers) which means, of course, it sucks to be you. Anybody, and I mean anybody who trusts these people is willfully and/or woefully ignorant of reality.

One of the oldest stories known to man (yes, man). If you give people too much power, they abuse it. This is why our founding fathers (yes, fathers) put so many restrictions and guard rails on the federal government, for example. The HR nightmare is a perfect example of what happens when you give a group of people (and let’s face it, this is not a representative group) too much authority - they abuse it. The scariest part of all this is the whole reason we have these people is to ensure nobody can abuse their authority. This is not sustainable.

No shit. Let’s start the stupid f’ng “equity” push with the NFL and NBA then roll through corporate HR departments. We need to beef up the 3% caucasian dude numbers. This isn’t equity.

It would better to just rid of the HR folks. They do more harm than good. In the old days we just had secretaries, but they didn’t wild enough authority to protect the idiots at top while pushing their dumb ass woke agendas.
