Green 'Pot' of Gold

That's just the first year! Up from $1.4 billion in 2013. I suspect it will geometrically progress and the taxes generated (plus money saved on the nudge, nudge, wink, wink, 'War on Drugs') will outperform the money the feds are making on the same war.

Marijuana has been with us all over the place ever since it was banned in 1937, and probably for thousands of years before that. It's a plant, if God made everything, God made marijuana.

Because it was banned, a great criminal infrastructure developed around the growth, smuggling, and sales of pot, and millions of people went to jail and prison and that costs us probably hundreds of billions of dollars but it didn't stop the pot business.

Criminalization hasn't made pot go away.

Legalization probably won't increase the usage too much, since it's so readily available now, but it will eliminate the criminal infrastructure that surrounds the pot business, and take billions of dollars out of the pockets of the drug cartels.

And it will save us billions of tax dollars a year we won't have to spend anymore locking up people for smoking weed.

The link I posted pretty much refutes your contentions.

The odds are it will be a loser, economically and socially.

Too much downside, not enough upside. A deal only the foolish would buy into.

Believe it or not, Phillip Morris has one of the best anti-smoking campaigns out there for kids. A friend of mine is a regional sales manager for them, and their sales are up. Go figure.

Hey advertising is advertising - brand recognition. Look what Budweiser did with their 'Responsible Drinking' program - they grew sales.

Honestly, when I was in my 20s and 1st smoking pot, I didn't think we'd ever come this far. Lots of things to think about. Public opinion is growing more favorable but as Libs points out, the War on Drugs feeds the oligarchy.

I remember when it was decriminalized in CA and became a $125 ticket instead of jail - that was a huge step. That should at least be standardized over the entire USA (IMO).

California Attorney General: Legalizing Marijuana Would Save Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars A Year

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/20...rnia-marijuana-legalization-fiscal-benefits/#

Legalizing alcohol was supposed to be a big money maker for states. Fact is that it wound up costing far more than the tax revenue generated.

Same thing with states that legalized gambling.

Both of these were sold by proponents as being great Sources of new revenue to the states. So states have in actuality cost themselves far more legalizing these two things than the tax revenue generated. Now what person in their right mind is not going to be highly skeptical of legalizing marijuana for it supposed great tax revenue?

There might be good reasons for legalization, but revenue isn't one of them.

And the "failed" war on drugs isn't really one either. It's not really a failure.

The people want it? Especially in California? Don't give a rip, they wanted gay marriage outlawed with Prop 8 and they didn't get it. So the fine folks of Cali are used to not getting what they want.

Hey, let's make the ticket a grand. After all, it's all about revenue generation right?

Hitting the 'like' button on this one...not only did he make it, he's probably smoking it....

The Morals thing I get MFAS, but the other reason, is that most of the economies in the Southern States (except Arkansas), aren't that bad. Texas will not do it within the next 20 years I predict.

Not sure where you're coming from on the 'morals' thing Libs. Do you think it's immoral for people to smoke marijuana?

Wow! More dime store theology from the twins!

Marijuana has legitimate uses, but you aren't talking about those.

Your "argument" still only winds up being the juvenile cry, "cause I like it and I wanna!"

What the US spent on prisons:

1980 = $540 million

2013 = $6.8 BILLION

This isolated fact means nothing. You are "reasoning" from the wrong end. How many other budgets have similarly grown? Per capita? Illegal Aliens? Constant dollars?

As usual you've got nothing except "I like it and I wanna". You can try to dress it up in adult clothing, but it's still just a kid dressed up.

This more than takes care of the propaganda that you twins have put forward.

Well, isn't God considered a 'higher' being?
