Great NYT article

Yes, let's ignore the the NYT article and the tragedy that ensued, and let's pretend that lawyers and the FDA digging through company emails always ends well because over here (shiny object) is a doctor who has never taken a payment.

Once the lawyers get a good hold of ISI's practices, Davies will be giving his robot speeches to audience's of empty chairs.

With your logic, every person who gets in a car accident should sue the dealership for thier practices!

The person that posted this statement has got to be the biggest idiot that ever lived. Are you really that dense that you can't see the vast differences between a person having an accident and wanting to sue a dealership over questionable sales tactics vs. a person HAVING BEEN OPERATED ON with the robot and wanting to sue intuitive due to among numerous other issues, questionable sales tactics? Way to trivialize to the extreme.

Seriously...just...kill...yourself.

What terrible sales tactics; They are actually trying to get someone to use their product; how horrible. It's not like the Ethicon reps aren't going to the GYN's begging them to do a Vag Hyst or a TLH. I wonder how many emails have been circulated among those companies with "get this info out to as many docs as possible and see how many robots you can convert before end of qtr"

At your leisure, feel free to go back and re-read the previous poster's comments. I believe the term used was 'questionable' not 'terrible.' Another good term would be 'high pressure'; as in high pressure sales tactics. And I'm not quite sure why you're getting so defensive like there's no truth to what DOCTORS across the country are saying about Intutive Reps pressuring for more surgeries. Lastly, re-visit your comparison of an Ethicon rep begging a Doc to do a vag hyst to an intuitive rep pressuring a Doc to do a now exceedingly more expensive vag hyst. You seem like a fairly intelligent person. Are these 2 scenarios really equal? And if they are equal, why isn't ethicon getting the bad press for their sales tactics that Intuitive is getting? Damn that's some good kool-aid!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the board idiot. Accident/Dealership argument holds water. This persons drivel does not.

Seriously... just... go... back.. to.. school.

Agreed. The bogus pressure/blackmail tactics, over-promise of safety (ahem, after 50 + cases that is), the over promise of clinical improvement, flat-out lie that robot cases are profitable, and the bogus growth created (over-used product). So, if you buy a robot, you will get more pts. Why? Do more people get cancer when you have a robot?! No, when you have a new toy you look for places to try it = overuse. Pts that dont need surgery at all, are all of a sudden getting a robot procedure. Wonder why 99% of hospital CFO's hate ISI? I feel bad fr the temporarily brainwashed reps high on the promise of a big paycheck. The rehab process will hurt when they fire you, but eventually life will be better.

Yes it does hurt to come face to face with reality after you realize you've been sold this book of lies. Being pressured into booking 'ghost cases', the constant pressure, time away from family- all for a couple shekels is humbling to say the least. Take the money, grow up, move on.

Does not hold water unless the car dealership is teaching people to drive too. This argument only "holds water" if if the negative consequences of failing to teach the customer to drive correctly hurt an unsuspecting third party who trusts the dealership and the teacher.

Put that up your nose and smell it grillburger.

You have the debating skills of a 3rd grader. You declare a "board idiot" and then proceed to say the "argument holds water" because you say so I guess. Yet car dealerships don't assess a driver's skill set or train drivers on how to drive their vehicles. And typically a person in an accident only sues the dealership if the accident was caused by a malfunction of the vehicle - like when people sued toyota a few years back because the camry's faulty breaks were causing fatal accidents. Man if you're an intuitive rep it's no wonder there have been so many issues with the robot.

If I sell you a pencil, and you decide it's a good idea to shove it up your ass, would it be appropriate to sue me as the pencil manufacturer?

All the sand in the vagina folks on this board should have either studied harder in school, or chosen a better major.

Love this article. As a former rep who constantly was pressured to train surgeons with low surgical volume and poor surgical skill, I'm glad ISRGs secrets are finally coming out. I remember my manager and director lecturing me in my car for over an hour about how I needed to train more people at an account that had the robot for 4 years. THe A, B and C players were already trained. Now I'm training D & F surgeons. Oh and pissing off my good robotic surgeons. "Challenge your surgeons belief in the robot"....sound familiar. And if I didn't have a good enough pipeline or make my number my they would question my belief in the robot, my job and my character. JL was the worst. Hope you are freezing in OH.

A better question: if I paid your dad a 20 piece chicken mcnugget meal to bang your mom but I couldn't get an erection because her vag smelled like my junior high bus driver's sweaty feet whenever he wore flip flops on those hot afternoons, would it be appropriate to sue your dad because his std is what caused your mom's vag to smell in the first place?

You are missing the point here my friend. The issue is that ISRG has sold the robot for the purpose of doing surgery that ISRG presented would provide patients and hospitals with better outcomes. At this time the company is the sole source for da Vinci training, the 4 to 6 hour pig lab course and then they issue a certificate. They will be held accountable for poor outcomes if it can be tied to inadequate training.

Your comment about the mother, father, and bus driver doesn’t even relate to the issue with ISRG and training. I will admit, I was crying laughing when I read it – thanks for that.

Scum bag criminals file appeals for new trials all the time (and win a new trial) on the basis of poor legal representation. Layers were fired or appointed to represent them and they find a way to poke holes in the job they did. Patients (and surgeons who trained) could easily point the finger at ISRG for inadequate training and be held accountable. This is the case right now in Washington state where a judge last week upheld the patients families cause for sewing ISRG.

I’ve been doing this gig for a long time now and still can’t believe how easy it is for a surgeon to train and be “credentialed” a robotic surgeon.
