GPS on company cars? cell phones? computers?

SHEESH! BOTH SIDES OF THIS ARGUMENT ARE MAKING ME SICK.

TO THE APPLICANT: YES, THEY ARE RIGHT. YOU SOUND LAZY AND YOU'D BETTER GET THAT IN CHECK.

TO MY FELLOW EMPLOYEES: QUIT SOUDING LIKE A BUNCH OF HIGH BROW PURISTS! LIKE NONE OF YOU HAVE LOGGED A FAKE CALL IN YOUR CAREER OR TOOK TIME OUT OF THE WORK DAY TO GO SEE JOHNNY PLAY SOCCER FOR THE 16TH TIME!! THE APPLICANT IS RIGHT YOU ARE HYPOCRITES.

THE ANSWER IS: ... <knocking at my front door>... "WHO'S THERE?" OH SHIT IT'S THE ASTELLAS SECRET POLICE!!! OUCH! IS THAT A BILLY CLUB?

APPLICANT - IF YOU JUST DO YOUR JOB YOU'RE COOL. THEY CAN'T TRACK YOUR CAR WITH GPS UNLESS THEY PUT A DEVICE ON IT OR IF THE ONSTAR IS ENABLED. IF YOUR LAPTOP IS 3G ENABLED, THEY CAN TRACK WHEN AND WHERE YOU ENTER YOUR CALLS. IT IS BIG BROTHER BEYOND THE PALE HERE AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET OUT OF THIS INDUSTRY.

FUCK YOU FUCK YOU VERY MUCH ASTELLAS!!!

I would like to know more about Astellas in this respect as I am interviewing right now. Please someone answer honestly. Does Astellas employ that extreme level of Big Brother (gps tracking of cars, company computers, company issued cell phones?)?

If it is true then I am not continuing on with the process.

Look elsewhere this place is a god awful pit of corruption and incompetence.

And astellas lies about everything. Turnover, FDA investigations, managerial threats, bullying etc etc etc etc.

And if your not OK with these corrupt filth, they will just right up a pack of lies about you, put you on a pip and shove you out the door. ANd HR and Compliance and no else will do anything but cooperate in the corruption.

So unless you a completely bankrupt human being who lies cheats steals betrays is abusive emotionally undeveloped incompetent etc etc etc look elswhere because YOU WILL BE MISERABLE IN THIS BLACK HOLE OF A PHARMA COMPANY.

Can anyone from Astellas please answer this question? I really would like to know what kind of tracking to expect from Astellas should I come on board.

Current Astellas employee. The answer may depend on the division you are with. You cannot be tracked with your personal phone via gps. However, anyone can obtain a call log to determine where a call was made or received.

Cars do not have OnStar. There is no GPS tracking device in the car. Your gas purchase can be tracked.

The laptops do have an internal wireless card. If this is activated, your location can be tracked.

This is the truth.

Good luck with continued interviews. Remember, cream always rises to the top. All companies have their challenges. It is what you make of it.

Anyone working reasonably full days and performing adequately has nothing to worry about. If your performance sucks, the first thing looked at is activity. That's the way it goes. Lots of ways to look into time in the field: computer/call entry, gas receipts, lunch receipts, etc. Any decent manager knows that flexibility is part of the job; just don't be a 10 to 2'er everyday, or you will get a cap in your ass!

Sir/madam, I appreciate your professional and courteous response to my post. Thanks and best of luck to you, and if it is not too soon Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Lot of folks seem to be complaining that nobody from Astellas is responding to the OP, but really, since Cafe is blocked at the office to avoid any intimation of endorsing any comments, few folks log in regularly. I just saw this chain and I'm a month or two late, I see.

Speaking as an IT guy at Astellas, the tablet has a wireless card that can be activated for wireless cellular access, but there is not infrastructure in place at Astellas to track location. I don't know if we could request that info form the carrier (Verison) but nobody has ever even explored it or asked.

I imagine it's exactly the same as the wireless cellular phone technology, and ditto for no interest or exploration of this capability that I am aware of.

For that matter, we don't review where folks are surfing the internet either to show they are only doing work - this is managed by policy only. Nobody wants to be the policeman or gatekeeper. That said, if there was a problem it'd be not too difficult to get some limited browsing history, but again, never seen it done.

I like the previous poster's comment, the opportunity is what you make of it. Best of luck!

Hello? Listen, anything that is 3G, like a cell phone can be tracked similar to a GPS. If you ever try to buy any pharma company car, one of the things you have to do is notify the fleet office and they will, if you have a tracker enabled, disable it for you remotely. They are all tracked. As a former DM for a top 10 pharma company, we actually have persons in corporate whose sole job is to track info like positioning on persons who are in the process of being managed out. It's no big secret, but if you think they can't pinpoint exactly where you are at 2 pm on a Wednesday afternoon, you are kidding yourself.
Location based technology is about the cheapest and most accurate thing on the market, its in your laptop to fight theft (but don't think your call logging and home office communication location isn't identified) its in your cell phone and hidden on the car. You can totally wire someone for less than $1,000 per employee with all 3 areas included - not to mention your corporate card usage tracks your locations - dont' think that for a position that costs a company upwards of $200,000 per year, per employee they don't track every movement you ever make.

I agree with you on the GPS capabilities of modern wireless anything. Like I said, the carrier certainly can do a GPS search. But we don't make those requests - at least normally. I'm sure a manager could escalate it, but I'm in a position to know. We don't.
