Good Leaders - Bad Leaders (No DM's)

Let's help Larry figure out who to lay off and who to keep. Who are the good leaders in this company, and who are the bad leaders. Let's limit this to the Director Level and up, otherwise every rep in the company will be posting DM's names. Too many of them to go that deep.

Worst Leader: Elaine Hockberg - Everyone wishes she gets well soon, but her management by fear, intimidatation, and micromanagement has caused so many good people to leave, and has everyone else fearing her return.

Good Leaders: This used to be a lot easier to answer...so many good leaders have left, and so many idiots have been hired above the few good people remaining. Phil Digenaro, Cary Renner, Patrick Johns, Marcus Shaw, and Steve Closter are all good leaders. Joe Zimmerman is also a voice of reason.

Smartest Guy with the Dumbest Leadership Team: Mark Devlin. He is a very bright guy, but how did he end up with MacDonald, Sandor, and Barnett leading his team? Contract Operations is a mess void of leadership. Barnett is a blathering idiot who has annoyed almost everyone she has come into contact with. Sandor is weak at best, but looking better compared to his below average peers. Sheldon also reports to Devlin, and may be the strongest of the bunch. Gosh, what does that say for that crew?

I don't disagree with your premise-a few of the names, possibly. But without identifying one of the "good leaders" by name, his behaviour at a recent 1-day Area POA meeting showed anything but good leadership.

First of all, he was late, and when he did show up, he didn't just quietly slip in, he interupted the entire program. And then he sat down and proceeded with a side-bar conversation that was loud, distracting, and above all: RUDE. I come from years of pharma and have never in my life seen this kind of behaviour.

If this person is a "leader", God help us.

Not one good female leader in this post, nice.

There are plenty of good women working at Forest. Gotta love Stu Ragins. Unfortunately some of the worst leaders in marketing happen to be women. One is N Barnett. Two others are Hochberg and P Barnett. Both Barnetts are little Elaine wanna-bes. EH - hope you get well soon and come back a little nicer. Doubt it, but we can hope. And P Barnett - has she done anything since she got here other than offend people? She is so rude it's amazing. By the way, there are plenty of poor male leaders, too.

Vickers is useless. Thinks that making every rep fear for their job is a good method to get results. Got his reps to burn through their "favors" in first 6 months of 2008. Good results then, but now look where they are! The good reps the region had are now jumping ship with good reason. He is doing much more harm than good there. Hopefully they boot him soon since his 2 years are almost up.

heres what i have to say about vickers......I was a forest employee for 2 years. Words cannot explain how shitty this company truly is. For those who think this is a bitter under performing employee who got fired you are sadly mistaken. My team and I did very well and were ranked top 25. The truth is that the management both mid and upper level is a joke. Moving to med devices I realized what true medical is about. This company is based on ass kissing complacency. Honestly anyone thinking about future employment with this or other pharma companies, please I advise you, look into a real sales job in med devices. It’s where the respect and money is. Wasting your time with this company wont reveal itself overnight but rather years down the road when you are beyond the point of being an attractive candidate to a med device company. Remember the suit wearing UPS sample delivery reps and caterer's (pharma) have a horrible rap in virtually all respectable industries for being lazy, un-intelligent, and horrible at sales; in short pretty dumb cheerleaders. Im sure there will be some rediculous witty remark in response to this posting but remember your still in pharma and I expect nothing less.

Agreed. I am in device sales, and it is respectable, challenging, and unlike pharma you do sell, and you are an actual resource for the Dr. When I go into the OR with scrubs on, and I am standing next to the surgeon it is all business, and I better know what I am doing. The pharma industry is a complete unadulterated joke. From the weak corporate ass kissing regional managers to the poor sales reps who entered the business without a real idea what they were in for. If you peruse Medreps.Com or other employment boards you see the same thing over and over "Please, No Pharma Reps." That is the sad reality. You pharma reps are stuck where you are. Its miserable where you are, and you have no other place to go. Suit wearing, report writing, lunch providing, sample droppers. It shouldn't even be called a " sales" job. There is no sales involved. The worse part of being a pharma rep is the degrading way staff and doctors treat you. That in itself was enough for me to get out. No one has the right to treat me with such disrespect and contempt. Anyone who posts here defending this horrible unethical industry needs to understand you are brainwashed.

I love reading what the field writes about DMs. Truth be told most reps couldn't run an ice cream stand. All you reps do when we're not around is complain about why you're not successful. I came from biotech and NONE of you could stack up. I'm here because I want to make this place better. Just leave the company becaue the new leadership team is going to take out ALL the weak links.

Sounds like a loser DM who got pushed out from Biotech. No respectable DM would make a lateral move to Forest.

You are an idiot. There is something to be said for going from biotech to Forest. Biotech is 1000 hours a week and this is more manageable. Why am I getting beat up for wanting to work hard, provide for my family and have decent hours?

I couldn't agree with you more regarding Vickers. The real question one has to ask, however, is who put him in this role and how far up the management chain does the incompetence go? I believe it's farther up than most people realize. Does Amory, Vickers and all of their inexperienced managers really believe that hiring new reps to replace seasoned reps and calling it “cleaning out the dead weight” is the answer to winning Presidents Club? What a bunch of incompetent morons! What's even more hilarious is in 6-12 months when the region is still at the bottom, all the managers will be scratching their butt wondering why it didn't work. Forest should get rid of 80% of their middle management and replace them with true leaders and people that know what they're doing.
