pascetti and a jar of Ragu. You think the money and benefits will keep going so that Merck can have
you deliver food for them. Even all you hotshot Keytruda reps are in for a rude awakening some day...

And don't ever get sick or need health insurance on your own...
 




If someone has been making over 100K for many years and has nothing now, they only have themselves to blame. That person did not know what they had and now it is gone.

What a total crock and lack of empathy...Merck routinely pushes people out in their '50s and no matter how well you saved, savings hemorrhages fast without income.

Perhaps this unfeeling respondent will get a taste of reality post Merck. Obviously, there is no one to blame for not attaining additional skills that could assist in getting a job post drug rep. But to say just because someone was making 100K for a few years and fell far, it is solely their fault...

Everyone and I do mean everyone will lose there jobs eventually. No one ever retires from Merck anymore. Look around at tour counterparts, anyone left near retirement anymore and there won’t be.
 




i don’t think there is an urgency to get rid of salaried people anymore since the pension is going to a cash balance in 2020 which will be a huge savings for the company. They will also save a ton in severance because many people are leaving on their own next year due to the pension changes anyway. Also, don’t forget that retiree medical was pretty much wiped out for those who were not 50 by the end of 2012.
 




This is across the corporate landscape, once you hit 50 and/or 20 years of service, most companies want you out. The brutal truth is a younger person who is cheaper can do your job, regardless of what that job is.

At 48, Ive already accepted this.

True dat...I was pushed out exactly at 50...

Haven't been able to recover financially...Unemployed or
underemployed for 8 years now...

no one values lifer drug reps...Even Home Depot won't hire
me...(true story! they balked at my 100k former salary.)

Hahahaha! My brother retired to NC from Michigan, and wanted something to do part time. The interview was a joke, and he knew HD wasn’t the place for him. When the manager asked him what skills he would bring to HD, he said he could stand in an aisle and talk on his phone, run away when he saw a customer coming down the aisle, and direct customers to the wrong aisle for the merchandise they were looking for. Lastly, he could look busy while doing nothing. You know, like most of your employees I see every time I come in here.
The manager didn’t know what to say, and just said “ We’ll be in touch”.
By the way, my brother had a very successful landscaping business with 30 employees for 35 years.

Yeah, stick around and see. Why pay a 100k salary when a 50k will do? ... and even that’s too high for what we really do.
Very naive thinking.
Whatever makes you feel better but your days are numbered.

Agreed. Those tough guys/gals claiming “stupid” and “loser” are the exact clowns who will hopefully be laid off with a pile of debt because they “deserve” a fancy house and 2nd vehicle. Here’s hoping the karma boomerang clips you both in the taint.

Brown noser who claims to be working REAL hard all the time yet no one in the offices know him. His dissatisfied wife and poor kids simply use him for his income & benefits.
 




Depends where u live. I’ve been laid off 3 times in last 7 years. Always—every time landed back in pharma with higher salary. I’m 60. If ur prepared to play the game u will b fine. You also have to realize PC is dead. You will need to matriculate to specialty. Bigger territory but more money.
