For those that were severed!!!

I am over 45 and have been going to a MD for depression since the "bloodbath"! I don't know how I am going to keep things going - house, tuition, food, car, etc.!! My manager was a real dick in telling me about the reductions! I should have slammed his pinhead into the wall arrogant little fu**er!! I am hoping my meds start to help me because I am lost and pissed!! How are others dealing with this big pile of sh*t!

Sucks I know. Did you not think you would get let go or were you shocked this all went down? Everyone that remains in pharma needs a plan for that next layoff. And there will be a next one...

You put a plan in place. Tell the family the rules have changed. Map out 12 months. Cut cable and cell phone etc kids move home or last trimester. But at the end of the plan you define victory. Youll have a job by then.etc don't let the the people on this site fool you. Is been hard on every one. I try read a lot about people who made it thru big transition s. Seem to help alittle.

Handers pay good but you need to brighten your attitude if you expect a tip.

Don't give NVS more power to negatively impact your life any more than it has been already. Drinking isn't going to dull your family's pain so grow up. They did whatever they wanted to do. Most people who were laid off previously are fine now. It was rough in the beginning but things got better. Don't wallow in self pity. Many have it worse than you. Our soldiers when they are done fighting in Iraq come home to being unemployed and they don't get a severance. Look for something positive to do.

I am, just a consumer, so educate me a bit. Doesn't Norvartis own Sandoz a generic branding company.? Couldn't Norvartis just rebrand their drugs as a generic brand and still maintain some profitability from their drugs?

No, generic profits are no where near the branded profitability. The vast majority of generic profit is only made within the first 180 days as an authorized or exclusive product when price erosion is at its minimum.

THANKS for the counsel!! At least there are people out there who still believe in humanity and helping others!! I am feeling better today but I still drank a 12-pack of Bud last night! I may try the gym today. God Bless!!

Re: For those that were severed!!! ~ There's a better Way!

Anyone take a look at the severance package where is shows the positions that were let go and the age?!! Isn't it unbelievable how the MAJORITY of those let go were in the 38-48 age range and ALL EXECUTIVE SALES CONSULTANTS!!! Hmmm cant get a 3 on Values and Behaviors but yet they use that to determine who stays and who goes. Sounds like discrimination to me!!! Ridiculous!!!!

Yes age discrimination is VERY real. It's really all about $$$$ Those of us over 35 cost too much MONEY! Let's face it they can hire a Barbie or Ken doll right out of college and pay them $20 for a doctor's autograph and keep them on a contract 6 months post drug launch (assuming that the pipeline isn't dry)

Find me on LinkedIn and I'll show your there's an AWESOME exit strategy...even if you were kept temporarily. Just look for Serentiy Matters (because it does!)

Best of Luck in your Next Chapter :) Embrace it and Enjoy it!

CUT OUT the BOOZE! It only makes your depression worse!! Don't let this company define your worth! Say this phrase over and over: I don't give a f**K anymore!!

Sure I will tell the mortgage company that. They should be cool with it and let me slide for a few months.

Don't despair and use the counseling services provided by the company! You must keep your chin up and above all don't drink. Recommend you meet with fellow co-workers that were laid off and discuss your issues. In addition, it takes about 2 - 4 weeks before your antidepressants begin to have an impact. Keep going!!

Here's a thought, sell your house If you can't afford the Mtg. Move to an area with high job growth if you're not in one already & worse comes to worse rent a nice town house or apt or another home , tap into 401K if you have to. If you have a spouse & kids they will adjust. Start over this is life & its an adventure. Not a big deal to lose some material possessions. As long as you have your health & family you are way ahead of the game.

I was laid off in 2010 over 50, 20 days before I could have had retiree medical benefits. Do you have any recourse? Not if you sign the severance agreement. It took me 2 years to find a position. So anybody over 50 good luck finding a new position.

I call BS on this drama queen. With severance you have probably 6 mo Mortgage payments
plus your 401k if you need to use it. Plus whatever savings. If you are truly living paycheck to paycheck you did something terribly wrong & you need to adjust your priorities

Here's a simple solution for a mortgage you can't handle.....FOR SALE!
