This is a pre-cursor of what will be happening around Christmas.... sales reps "You're Fired"
OK!! Here we go chicken little. This is a pre-cursor of what will be happening around Christmas.... sales reps "You're Fired"
I don't think it is right to call people that anticipate layoffs "trolls." Let's face it AZ has had many layoffs in the past and many do happen around Christmas. Let's face it...this is the easiest job you will ever have that pays what this pays. You report a few calls during the day drive around maybe cater a lunch and do some computer work all for a 100K package. Not bad not bad at all! After a few years of this you never want to really work again. So people are scared of layoffs. Also think about this. Do you REALLY earn your salary? Are you really worth what the company pays you? If this was your company would you want a sales rep like you? Come on now. The vast majority of reps see less that five doctors a week. Maybe 20 second "message" to four of them. If you make ONE real sales call a week you're lucky. The environment we work in has changed drastically over the last few years however AZ sales uses the same model that originated in the 1950's. I think things will change and not for the betterment of the sales force.

Yes, the number of calls has gone down over the past few years but not that much. 10 years ago people were not seeing 12 doctors a day either.
The difference you have to think about is the price of the drugs are so much higher than they were just 10 years ago. Each call is worth exponentially more than it used to be.
Also, face to face calls are extremely expensive for a company to pay someone to do but are still a great ROI. A internet ad or an email is not nearly as impactful at changing behavior as a live face to face interaction.
Again, keep in the mind the price of the drugs you are selling. On a per person basis drug reps today bring in way more revenue per rep than they ever did in the past.
Don’t think so in oncology but a few but not a blood bath.Throw in the EY FFE program and we have a good ol' fashioned layoff coming, boys and girls.
Many of your statements are true. However you fail to mention the fact that more and more physicians are restricting access. Probably less than 50% of physicians allow rep visits. The vast majority of hospital systems closed their doors to reps a few years ago. Medical schools teach future doctors the "evils" of our industry. Regardless of high high prices are and how high profits are the need for mega sales forces is over. True the average revenue per rep has increased over time but NOT due to the selling efforts of the sales rep. The sales model we are in is broken everyone knows it but senior leadership just might NOT do anything about it. It will be interesting to see if a big pharma company significantly changes their sales model. I believe if this happens it will be a domino effect with other companies following. Overall, 20 second messages and waving to the doctor are the majority of calls...they sell shit but in reality everyone in the company knows this but nobody does anything about it.
Hey Boomer: Nobody wants your opinion anymore. Go take your Metamucil and sit on the toilet.Well said. I was in pharma sales from 1984-2016. It was great, and my starting salary in 1984 was $22K plus bonus. I worked for Marion Labs. They just came out with Cardizem. You could match your salary if you did a good job.
But times and the prices of big drugs have gotten to greedy. It started when Medicare-D came out in 2006.
Big pharma did a "Bozo" no-no. The socked it to the patient. So, now docs don't need reps unless you have a lunch, and many reps don't know how to sell, and know the PI backwards and forward.
The Party is over. Good Luck!
Some of what you have stated is true, but can you tell me that a company is going to NOT have a sales force? Really? Many of the pharma companies know this but what is important to shareholders, are profits, stock prices, pipeline and a new term shared voice. AZ wants to compete with Merck, BMS, in oncology, and because of this they were beginning to expand their sales reps but Covid hit and thank god didn’t begin this massive expansion. Will there be some trimming I believe so, will it be a blood bath, no I don’t think that will happen, reason, pleasing the shareholders and the potential coming from its pipeline.I don't think it is right to call people that anticipate layoffs "trolls."
