Field visits after June 23rd

What will field visits look like after June 23rd. Will there be one field visit per quarter? Will they still use the old model of not trusting reps and having field visits very month!!

My guess ounce every 2 months.

Hope those who stay are met with mangers willing give at least a crumb of credit to their people. Some of the existing mangers are like stingy misers...never give reps credit for nuttin!

Guidance has already been drafted about this. If your numbers are good, they leave you alone. If your numbers decline they will ride you and ride with you like nobodys business.

Has nothing to do with number!!! It has to do with managers checking their own box and their own requirements. In other words, it is not about the rep and certainly not about the customers.

Could it be the culture! So many people want to get out as soon as they reach their mark. Much is about the managers. About 50% have horrific reputations!!! Is it the company requirements or their own requirements to get ahead, stay ahead any way they want? Pal up, play favorites. Pegging workers as flunkies and making flunkies and scoundrels best in class...

Is it so unexpected hands went up at lightening speeds?

A manager has to check boxes to say he is spending, say, 60% of his time coaching you. A good manager will get creative in how to check those boxes and leave you alone. A retentive manager will see you every other week because he loves you.

I've never seen so many people (managers) paid so much for contributing so little. How these dim-witted empty suits survived for all these years is astounding to say the least. I guess even a mismanaged company like Merck cant ignore the fact that these revenue consuming anchors contribute very little and now have to be cut loose. Too bad it only took several decades for Merck to reach that conclusion, something that has been ridiculously self-evident to everyone else

I suspect its not only the big pressures rolled down from the managers but also other situations. Some have very tough commutes, difficulties with access and no win problems. Look also to managed care losses or problems related to particular territories, teams or certain accounts.

Once those numbers decline reps are on the hot seat, whether they can change things or not! BTW..I have never met a rep (or manager) who always stays on top of the pack but when the pressures and problems do not take a break it's wearing...Some are opting for a hand raise for break and to move on to find greener pastures. Others are looking for other jobs here and doing something else with less pressures. Still others are in a position to really finally be able to retire and go fishing.

Great post…the CTLs are completely hapless and useless to the company…Merck is so lame, it keeps paying them crazy money and benefits for doing nothing…

I don't believe one CTL will lose their job with Merck in the upcoming carnage…they will give them other jobs or make up some phony MGAM-esque position to keep them flush...

How many managers are there anyway? Its crazy to discard them. Absorb them, they are considered superior level as reps. Let them be in a rep role if no other manger spots. If money is the issue talk......"Lets Make a Deal!"

Sure most would be open to negotiations!

Are manger spots anything like leopard spots?

There are 800 CTLs!!! That was the last number I heard at a meeting I'm February this year. According to very senior level person, the cuts in June will be dramatic and painful.

No rhyme or reason behind most who are bumped, moved or sent looking. Add in a dash of commutability and bit of prowess with MBA sort of things and the winner is probably pulled from a hat!

Guess its going to be like the rep card game........but here, two ups become a one up with plenty more reps under their belt......

Pardon me, but it just might be a tough nut to crack in quite a few ways...

Funny!!!!! superior to reps? only in the CTL dreams lol. Most could not sell water in the desert. Drs can't stand them. What a joke. They should have to pay back some of their salaries for costing the reps access!!! Negotiations --give me a break!. The best thing Merck could do for sales is cut middle management significantly. What do CTLs, MAEs, NGAms, DCOs really do? NOTHING that drives revenue.

Heard bob M say 800 CTL but I am thinking this includes vaccines, PC, hospital, etc etc. only if they are from Washington, have joined PAC, and are republicans, will these these folks survive cuts.

Back to original post. Does anyone know if the field visits will be reduced to one per quarter? Everything at merck and the industry has changed except this babysitting idea of field visits once per month. Reps hate it, customers hate it, and managers hate it.

Once a month is not a big deal. Its not intrusive to me or my customers. The only reason they may hate a manager is if he/she is an aggressive dingbat who doesn't respect the fact that the office DOES NOT KNOW THE MANAGER. Now that is the worst. A manager who thinks a relationship can be made in one visit then asks for something based on that.
It's one day out of how many work days a month? 22 on average? I can survive that no problem. If you can not, then maybe you have a lot to hide.

Any experienced rep should not need monthly manager visits. In no other industry do you see so many managers riding with reps and so frequently. It's a waste of time and money unless the rep is new to the profession. Managers should be available if needed, have conference calls, be up on data and other relevant information, but riding around with reps is unproductive.
