EMID reps looking and leaving in droves!

An extremely busy recruiter called me today with a potenital position and also mentioned that there have been "an unbelievable amount of resumes" coming across his desk from the EMID division. He said that most are referencing the poor compensation compared to the competition. He used EES as the example stating that their base pay averages 30% more than Covidiens. Could this be true? He also said that reps are stating that the commission structure at Covidien is not competitive and has not been for several years. I am praying that I can get out of here soon.

EVERYONE at Covidien is looking...not just EMID...horrible place to be at the moment. With the way the compensation plan is at the moment, the only people that will accept such a crappy job will be people DYING to get into the OR or those who currently do not have a job.

We all want to leave because the company justifies screwing the field at every turn. I have been looking and every recruiter tells me that my time at Covidien is a black mark on my resume. I am embarrassed to tell my former colleagues where I work. I won't admit on linked in that this is where I am. My last company was a start up and failed and that is not as embarrassing as being a Covidien employee

I very much trust their comments. They recruit for Covidien and are the recruiter that initially hooked me up with my job. I have no reason but to believe what he says.

Many of the reps I am close to with the company are looking as they are tired of busting their tail and not being compensated close to the industry average. Lets face it, the past couple of years we have been paid like mid ranged pharma reps and have not gotten a raise. On top of that we are told we have an awesome commission plan and find out that 1/3 is just not even close to being attainable. Truth is that we were baited by the company with 3 poor products that were not investigated properly prior to being developed. The best thing the company can do with these instruments is file them away in the catalog and forget about them. Sils is dead with Applieds being much better in surgeons minds. The articulating instruments are hard to use and always on b/o. The hem stapler is a regional thing as most areas dont have the volume to sell many units unless you can develop a new market.

I totally agree.

I am thankful for Covidien giving me a shot. With only 2 yrs in medical sales I just got an offer and accepted with a 26k increase and much more attainable quota with a semi competitor.

Good for you. I am in my 3 rd interview with another company and pray to God I get it. I just cant make a living here. I took a pay cut to come here with hopes of upside and stability compared to my old device job. At least in my old job I could make some money.

EMID reps should be looking. Management is putting a plan in place to make the sales force 80% sales associates (making less than $90k) and 20% actual sales people at fulll commission ($200k+)....today it is the other way around....good news for college grads, bad news for the rest

I call Bullshit on that.

Interesting; this would mean that 50-75% of the current sales force would be laid off? Who would be the first to go...tenured reps with high base salaries, or new hires without numbers to bolster their cause? Of course, this would be the final nail in the coffin for the EMID sector. Will certainly be easy for the sales associates to sell staplers at list price in competitive accounts with no relationships to speak of.

I just left last week.... and let me just say, I cannot be happier. I will never have to hear "leadership team", BFT, or any other "Covidien" terminology again. The leadership at this company sucks!
Now will somebody please come pick up this frickin' Subaru, and get it the hell out of my driveway!

Wish they would get rid of the Bayer HR Team

2 from my region are leaving this week due to lack of ability to make good income. One going to spine and the other to direct competitor. Such a damn shame.

Horribly mismanaged from top to bottom, with an unbelievable disconnect from corporate to the sales force. Reps are forced to put lipstick on this pig to their accounts on an almost hourly basis. EMID = Everyone Migrating In Droves.

Word is we are at 8-10% turnover in EMID, and this is an acceptable number to upper management. There will be no changes or relief for the sales force. We just have to suck it up or leave I guess.

The reps that will leave will be the Sr. reps and not the Executive or 1-2 yr entry device rep. There wont be layoffs. The Sr.'s will leave and allow for entry level positions to replace higher paid reps. Its a smart move by COV. The exec's will stick around...I dont blame them for the pay they are getting. With the economy being what it is, contracts are becoming the driving force of the Endo business (for both EES and COV). Why do you need talented sellers in a more contractually driven market? COV has realized this and set the comp plan up to encourage higher paid reps to move on. The Exec's will be be around to train the new hires.
