Strange behaviors at the Peregrine Falcon nest in Pittsburgh....a second egg hatched, and Momma fed it to the first hatchling. That nest has been through some MAJOR changes this year.
First, Dorothy, who was 16 perished (no one knows how or where....just disappeared) and a new female took the spot and mated with E2 (who had mated with Dorothy for the past 7 years or so). While the new female was laying eggs, E2 got run over and died, and immediately (within a day or two) and new male showed up and has been helping her with the eggs. So it's a completely new set of parents. I'm glad I wasn't watching the second egg hatch.
