DUI...advice

Has anyone gotten a DUI or know of anyone that has? Were they immediately fired? Should I tell them? I got one this past weekend and am freaked out. Please post relevant answers.
 




There is a policy on this, its always better to report then hide, it will come out anyway since its tied to your licence and reports are run during the year to check
 








Talk to an attorney....immediately. Before you say one word. If you haven't yet been to court you are at this point only accused. Do you have a drinking problem that needs treatment? Lots of questions that need answered.
 




If you are still in possession of your license I would wait until you are convicted and the company finds out on their own. Make sure you can avoid field rides with your DM and for gods sake don't tell anyone whats going on. Might as well cash a couple of pay checks.

It is not immediate termination - depends on your internal point system. Policy is you have to report any speeding ticket/dui etc within 24 hours. Not sure what happens when you don't.

No one knows until its published in the newspaper. There are two sides to this if you fight it. The State DMV side and the "criminal" side. You have to fight both - you can win one side say no jail time if it applies but the state may still take your license. Every state is different. I definitely would get a lawyer but seriously be ready to fork out $10 grand at the end of it all!!!
 




In most DUI situations that I am aware of, if the rep was tenured with the company, had a strong track record, there might be some hope. If you are a newer rep, likely you will lose your job.

It has nothing to do with tenure. They can't have two sets of rules based on tenure. Mainly if you don't have other points on NNI's internal system you won't lose your job. If this puts you at a high risk driver that is a possibility but still not a guarantee. Not reporting it could be a problem though. You may be passed your time to tell without penalty.

If you check yourself into rehab - call your DM this will be looked at as a medical issue. You keep your job with restrictions like only using the car for work . 30 days rehab is min and your medical plan will cover it . Hope this helps

Good advice...it is considered a "disability" ... you are eligible for short term disability. Act quickly because if Monday rolls around and you are laid off..you are screwed. They can't fire you if you're on disability. You'll eventually lose your job probably but you'll buy at least 6mo.

Yes - I know someone this happened to at another company and I think they may have gotten close to a year out of it. That's probably your best hope. Someone in the company was recently let go for DWI. They were gone almost immediately.

This is not true at all. It varies by state. For instance, in Ohio if you refuse to breathe it's an automatic one year suspension - first offense.

The best advice....don't drink and drive. It's not worth it. I know that doesn't help you now. Sorry.
 












You don't have to tell anyone when you get a speeding ticket. When they check your driving record once a year, it will show up but if you don't have a lot of points on your record it doesn't matter.
 




If you have a problem...declare it now. And I mean today! You will keep your job. Alcoholism is a disability and puts you into a protected class. Further, your health plan will cover your rehab and you'll get short term disability. That is your only hope. If you just fucked up...well then ... you're screwed. Tell your manager, take your lumps and know that you've stepped aside and spared someone else their job. These are tough times.
