Driving while buzzed at Merck...

OP; You have to hope the CTL in question cannot figure out which of her 12 or so reps it was. Good luck with that. I think you may have picked the wrong option as without immediate enforcement (i.e. the police pulling her over) then it's impossible to prove.
I would keep my head down and wait for another more concrete (in Merck's terms) opportunity. If she is such a bitch, I'm sure there will be plenty more chances. Good luck.

looking at the bigger picture... I've often wondered why "policy paranoid" merck continues to allow alcohol to be served at these events. Customers and reps get smashed...Then smash thier cars or get arrested, does merck get sued?

Wow. Drinking while driving "buzzed" is serious. YOU, the OP, should have called the police. No one should drive drunk. How would you feel if she hit a pedestrian or a small child or another car? What is wrong with some of you?

BTW, calling the OB will get you absolutely nothing except a label slapped on your back that you are a backstabbing pain-in-the-ass, which I guarantee you are! People who knowingly let someone drive while drunk are just as guilty should something bad have happened. Ever wonder why a bartender or establishment can be held liable?

By all means, always contact your ombudsman whenever a question arises or you have an issue with something at Merck. The ombudsman is always your best first step. I think Merck really has lost most of their good reps. What is left are dumbf@#$ who believe the ombudsman is a sane approach for anything.

Had the same reaction to the OP. What a sick set of priorities here.

I have had this occur at a company X-mas party. Myself and another drove her and her car home . My bad, I could have put others at risk and sought revenge. Opportunity lost , damn.

I cannot count the times Merck people were under the influence at district, regional, and national meetings or a simple informal get-together like Christmas. Never would I plot to call Merck and get even that way. What kind of reps are we hiring these days? Little back stabbing school boys?

There were others present besides those in his/her district, could have been any of about 20. So, no I dont think they will know it was me. Obviously when I called the advice line I made sure I could not be tracked. I didnt think to call the police, she wasnt that impaired and that call would have been traced. While HR cannot prove whether he/she was too impaired to drive I hope it will at least be see as an inappropriate thing to do, especially by someone in leadership. Id love to see it go on his/her permanent record. I had been investigating by reading Mercks policies and on other internet sites what policies he may have violated in the past and how I could use them to get him/her in trouble. Funny that everyone else on this site but you thinks Im psycho. They dont know the whole story. When I told my spouse that there was a way I could get my manager in trouble anonymously they said...."what are you waiting for?" Because my spouse knows what I have gone through. How else can someone handle an unreasonable CTL? Call their DCO? Someone I worked with did that and got hell. Talk to them?, remember they are psycho.

Basically you made an anonymous and unsubstantiated complaint which is just about useless. If you read between the lines people here are saying ultimately you will lose if this actually turns into something. If your life is that miserable at Merck that you are spending time studying the policy letters and doing Google search to support your plan to get even, you really should seriously spend that energy looking for a new job elsewhere. Merck will remain toxic. If this one is gone, you may get one that is worse. Remove yourself from something terrible may be good for your own sanity. All the craps at Merck can make you angry and vengeful. But it is really a losing battle to get even with all that have wronged you.

I don't think you contacted the ombudsman at all. The only ratting you are doing is via CafePharma. Merck would be sensible to set a limit on number of drinks (2) in order to avoid liability for DUI events.

Merck would probably not be responsible because of policy guidelines. An individual should use personal restraint- many don't but it is NOT required to have alcoholic drinks at functions so drinker beware and accept the consequences. OP- looks like most of us think you are the problem.

In drunk-driving liability, the drinker and the drink provider often share liability. And, in spite of the lawsuit-discouraging phalanx of lawyers at Merck's disposal, Merck has undeniably deep pockets and would likely collect a headache due to that fact alone.

Let me start by saying that I work with someone who has made my life hell. A while ago, at a Merck evening function, this person had a few too many drinks then got in their company car and drove home. I turned her into the Ombudsman. Do you think anything will happen to her? I realize she did not get pulled over but she cannot deny that she did drink and drive, many Merck employees saw her. How tolerant is the company of this? Possible warning? A firing would be great but probably too much to ask.....

You sound like you need more friends than enemies...so why go this route and risk exposure? Turning a rep in for drinking makes as much sense as turning them in for doing their job. The odds are you are letting this person get to you by your choice and you have not taken the time to figure out a clever way to deal with your issues with this person.

Avoid this person, step away, develop strategies that eliminate interaction with this person and be smart....drop this fruitless attempt that will only hurt you long term.

NEXT TIME, TAKE HER KEYS OR CALL THE COPS BUT DON'T LET HER GET BEHIND THE WHEEL....YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY A DRUNK DRIVER....IF YOU DID YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE LET THIS HAPPEN LET ALONE TALK ABOUT IT...GOD, what a dumb ass you are

Relax....he said buzzed not drunk....don't tell me you snatch the keys from everyone sitting at the bar at every restaurant you go to....and don't tell me you would do that to every friend or company employee or executive you've seen drink, buzzed, or drunk. Chill out Officer Do Good.

It appears we fail to recognize that "buzzed" driving is the same as "drunk" driving in virtually all states. What's the matter with you?

Matthew 18:15-20 back at you friend. This gives Christians the steps to follow when they have been offended or wronged. First, speak directly with the alleged offender about their offense against you, then if necessary, take 2 or 3 witnesses with you to speak with the offender, then if necessary, take it up with your community (church), and lastly, take it up with your appropriate government officials.
