This has been going on for years. It is the Chainsaw Jack style of management where you identify the bottom performers and eliminate them. It is called healthy turnover. The problem at AZ is how they manage this and putting a specific number on it. At AZ, the managers identified as promotion eligible are those that play the numbers best by targeting a select few every year to be managed out of the company. At AZ you get a gold star for every person you fire or force to leave. So if you have a District of all solid or even exceptional performers, someone has to be on the target list to be removed or the manager is labled as weak. Does anyone see anything wrong with this? A manager hires the best, trains them to be top performers and then is punished for creating a strong team. WTF is that? Is it any wonder our culture of backstabbing peers and leaders flourishes?
