Dinners

Considering position w WC and have questions regarding dinner requirements. I'm told that 2-3 dinners are required per week and that WC does not comply with PHARMA at this time. I'm concerned that the requirement is not realistic for my area but if I can bring spouses it might be more doable. I've only worked for big pharma under CIAs so a little out of my element here. Serious professional answers appreciated.

When did these "rules" change? I progressed to the final interview for a position in the gastrointerology division after being told by the District manager that I was the "perfect" candidate" for the job. At our last meeting the district manager said that she would hire me on the spot if she could. Then 2 weeks ago I was told that the position was not going to be field and they would be starting at square one with the interview process. The only concern that was given to me by the recruiter was that WC felt that I would not commit to the 2 dinners a week and travel because I am married and have children. Motivation to succeed comes from having a family at home. Kind of rediculous not to hire someone that WC management feels is right for the position because they have a family. Hope the rules have changed and best of luck to you...

Not giving you a job based on the issues you claim is extremely illegal. In fact, anyone trained in hiring and EEOC would know not to even ask questions about children and marriage, or even discuss this during an interview. In fact, you should never, ever, even bring this up. What you do now is up to you, but I ASSURE you I am correct. If you know any HR managers, or even attorneys, just ask them and you will see.

If the manager, or anyone else, even the recruiter has a document stating that they are concerned about your being married and a parent; thats free money with an almost certain quick settlement.

I met this hot lady tuesday night with beautiful big titts and she said she was doing a dinner with nurses for WC Labs. In a flirty way she offered me to join them, I already had plans so I gave her my number if she calls back is it ok for me to join in the dinner. More than likely she wont call but I would love to be eating out twice a week and maybe eating desert at her house. Just asking

Hate to be the bearer of unwanted news, but the reason you did not get the job was not because of your kids and the dinner requirements. If you had a couple interviews with the DM, it most likely came down to the field ride. Did you do one of those? They are very important, without the reps "go ahead", that could easily put you out of the running. Or, simply, the DM was just blowing smoke up your ass and found a better candidate that he/she might not of known about. At any rate, there are plenty of us who are in our 40s have kids and what not and can handle the job.

Can somebody recommend a good caterer. I have a kick ass lunch coming up and want them to be fed. Need something they will remember. I can pick up the food if the ass clones don't want to deliver. Need dessert too. Hurry up with responses you lazy turds, lunch is tomorrow.

Don't take it too hard, even if it sounds cruel, but you will find something way better than WC it's the used car sales company and it's bad on your resume for the future

I appreciate all of the comments, even about the field ride. The issue is that there is not an issue...I knew going into the ride along what to expect and how to "perform" and without a doubt close the deal by asking for the job. According to the District Manager I knocked the ride along out of the park and the rep I was riding with said the same thing after the ride along. Then I had a second ride along with the manager and met one of the "speakers" doctors in the territory with her ending the meeting by saying I would hire you right now if I could. I had a final interview set up 4 days later with the Regional Manager and that was going to be it. I can understand if I dropped the ball and did not do well on the ride along or at any other point. But according to everyone I spoke with (whether they were blowing smoke or not) I was a shoe-in and all I needed to do is take the same "enthusiasm" and confidence into the final interview.

Anyway, still pursuing pharma....what are your opinions about medical device sales?

What's your background? B2b or Pharma ?

Exactly, to my knowledge it would be higher and then adding a company car (expenses paid) and bonuses the cap in pharma would far exceed the compensation cap in my existing position.

You are right on the comp on Pharma, with B2B we had low base and with the bonus you will still be making less than the base of phamra.
However, the skill set you learned from B2B, you will never be able to learn that in Pharma.
If you asked 5 yrs ago, I would say go Pharma because the $$ is great and market was stable. Not the same now, Phamra companies are laying off constantly. If you really do want to get into Medical device , then stay away from pharma because NO device company will talk to you if you stay in pharma for more than 2 yrs. Reason is Pharma rep become lazy, (there is no selling), all you do is get signatures/ drop samples and that's why we are called "sample droppers". I came from B2B yrs ago, and wished I would have waited to get into Medical device.
I have friends who are in device and are making way more $$ than Phamra reps.
Heres the diff:
Pharma rep: High base but low bonus
Medical device: low base but bonus is way more.

It definitely does help...I appreciate the input...best of luck to you.

The only reason I recommend this company is if you are currently unemployed. Turnover in pharma is bad enough, but this company is the worst. Terrible managers and subpar products with poor coverage. Wait it out for a medical sales job.

Agree!!!
I also wish I could get out, micromanaged and want out. I too looked into med sales and was told I have been in Pharma too long.
I am sticking around until I find the next gig.

Wow! I was wondering about them after all of the information I had read. Most companies have negative comments associated with them, but what I have read so far about 98% is in the negative slant. Much appreciated info about med. sales...I will definitely dive in and make something happen. Thanks for the honest, professional insight....I hope the same consideration will come your way soon.

I am currently interviewing for W-C. i have heard it's over the top micromanaged with DM's looking at signatures before 9am and after 4;30. Is this true? What about just moving the mkt share and just doing the job? Is this for all DM's from the VP???
