Ding! Dong! The Witch is Dead!

Championed a selling model that the rest of the US industry tried in the mid '90s and learned the shortcomings of about 10 years ago.

Allowed us to get so far into bed with ZS Associates and other "outsourced partners" that true expertise within BI is now sorely lacking.

Required a number of "frequency activity" metrics and distributions that are so complex that noone understands them (yet we are held accountable -kind-of- to them).

Allowed a culture with selective favoritism to trump one based on principles and merit.

Failed to listen to the few voices in the US that were willing to actually challenge his misplaced positions and opinions.

Believed the many "this is what Bert and/or Germany would like to see" so-called analyses that came out of the US ..... and changed policy/direction/strategy based on these flawed perspectives.

Made us all feel a bit inadequate in our sub-$5000 suits.

etc.

Plus a few more:

big time bully
no character
willingness to hurt others to make himself look good
loved consultants more than BI employees
infused BI with hate management
treated US sales like an unwanted prostitute
promoted myopic brown nosers
disliked diversity of any kind
and much, much more......

Perhaps biggest one:
BI USA was best sales team and Bert (the ass) treated us like shit!

My guess is that Germany even reads Cafe Pharma for insight and understanding these days.

The horrid, Ingelheim architect of U.S. tyranny, bullying and selling models from hell was FIRED! Hopefully, his recent antics to reshape U.S. operations can be cancelled, before more harm comes to our fragile recovery.

This was a man, reminiscent of the social right, who does not believe in science. He led pharma commercial, and yet he was a denier of basic math and science.

May he find a retirement community and decay slowly into obscurity. Good riddance!

Survey of Cafe Pharma readers:
Will his departure make a difference? Yes or No

Amazing.

Mr. Engelbert Tjeenk Willink, Member of the Board of Managing Directors at Boehringer
Ingelheim GmbH ....... has decided to leave the Board....We are sorry to see him go and wish him all the best.... in his future professional and
personal endeavours. Mr. Tjeenk Willink has worked with passion and enthusiasm......We welcome Mr. Hillgrove..... well equipped for the various challenges that lie ahead....

In terms we can understand.....
Engelbert = Bert
Tjeenk = Very Nasty Leader
Willink = a term similar to f*ck you over or 'will-ink you'
'decided to leave" = has finally been found out by the Boehringer Family and received the ax
'sorry to see him go' = sorry we should have sent him packing ages ago
'in his future' = anywhere but BI
passion and enthusiasm = he was happy, but he HURT BI BIG
Mr. Hillgrove = time to change and not be mean
well equipped = (not what you are thinking)
'challenges that lie ahead' = getting rid of other nasty leaders and managers
Please continue to support Mr. Hillgrove = Long time BI guy needs our support to get the company back to the BI it was 20 and 30 years ago when Hillgrove started here. Or, forgive us as family members for not seeing that Bert has practically destroyed BI single handedly.

The people of BI are singing around the world today. Especially here in Germany and the US. It is as if an evil leader has finally fallen and the streets (halls of BI) are full of victory sounds.

The OP's comment: "Hopefully, his recent antics to reshape U.S. operations can be cancelled, before more harm comes to our fragile recovery." is well said and I agree!

The rumor is that his name has surfaced in the search for CB's replacement. Bert is former head of global marketing. He has experience leading sales teams; country head in both Canada and Mexico. His 'no nonsense' attitude is seen as a good way to improve some of the lackluster sales. While he was rarely liked by anyone, he was feared/respected. That sort of fiery leadership is what Germany is said to want in Ridgefield.

Nooooooo!

If this raving lunatic is actually put in charge of the US sales organization, people should get serious with their careers and get the F out. We all know the industry isn't what it used to be, and the company is far less people centered or even good to work for than it used to be, and that we're relatively underpaid. Despite that, many people here seem content to somehow try and 'ride out' the rest of their careers (as unlikely as that really is). This guy is literally everything that's wrong with the new BI and he ruin whatever we have left.
